We journey to the edge of the continental shelf and the Bremer Canyon, a remote deep-water ecosystem that draws one of the most incredible marine gatherings.
The largest member of the oceanic dolphin family, Killer Whales/Orcas combine intelligence, strength and sophisticated social bonds. Living in matriarchal family groups, knowledge is passed from older females to younger generations. As the apex predator, Bremer Bay orcas have become internationally recognised for their remarkable offshore hunting behaviour, making this one of the most exciting places in the world to observe these extraordinary animals in their natural environment.
Bremer Bay is truly one of Western Australia’s best-kept secrets. One of those rare places where rugged wilderness meets a spectacular coastline, and vast landscapes of land, sea and sky feel wonderfully far removed from everyday life. Drawn by the extraordinary whale watching, this charming coastal town will quietly capture your heart. What makes this place even more special are the friendly locals. It’s why we keep coming back.
WHAT TO EXPECT
Five days and four nights at Bremer Bay, home of extraordinary whale-watching.There will be spontaneous swims in turquoise waters, walks along pristine beaches and sunset dips in water so soft you’ll never want to leave. This charming coastal town will quietly capture your heart.
Mornings may begin with a swim. Afternoons invite rest or quiet exploration. Evenings are for long‑table dinners, sunsets, movie nights, star‑filled skies, and surprise picnics in beautiful places. Slip beneath the surface to snorkel or simply soak up the beauty of this spectacular coastline. For scuba divers, there will be an opportunity for a morning shore dive with Bremer Bay Dive (optional). Keep an eye out for the elusive weedy seadragon – among the region’s most sought-after marine encounters.
Bremer Bay is a place where simple pleasures feel the most meaningful and life feels wonderfully easy. It invites you to slow down, breathe deeply and feel the joy of simply being outdoors.
We come to Bremer for the people as much as the place. It’s about bringing good people together to share knowledge, life experience and the adventure.
There are friendly locals who invite you into their home, garden and gallery; and you may meet a fisherman who has spent his life on the ocean with stories of orca swimming (always anti-clockwise) around his boat, sleeping with one eye open.
You’ll leave with unforgettable memories, a sense of quiet awe, glistening eyes and a smile that lingers long after the waves fade.
For ocean lovers, the pristine beaches seem endless. Where the warm Leeuwin Current meets the cooler Southern Ocean, marine life thrives – from colourful nudibranchs to the region’s most sought-after marine encounters - the rare and elusive weedy seadragons, often seen here thanks to the seagrass beds that provide an important breeding ground and mysid shrimp which they survive on.
What a privilege it is to see orcas in the wild – a humbling and incredibly moving experience.
We spend a full day at sea with the passionate Naturaliste Charters crew, some of Australia’s most experienced cetacean behavioural specialists who genuinely care about the marine life they share these waters with. Usually within around 90 minutes we reach the orca hotspot, with a marine biologist onboard sharing their knowledge of the orcas, their behaviour, the wider ecosystem and the important research taking place here.
And you never know what else might appear. Pilot and sperm whales, dolphins, sharks, beaked and false killer whales, giant squid and an abundance of pelagic seabirds all call these extraordinary waters home. A professional photographer captures the day, while fresh food is served throughout.
This National Park is impressive beyond words. Fitzgerald River National Park is a globally recognised biosphere with wildflowers all year round, endemic plants such as the Royal Hakea (Hakea victoria) found nowhere else on Earth, and sweeping coastal views.
We will spend the best part of the day exploring by 4WD. There will be short nature walks, lookout points where sweeping views stretch across the Southern Ocean and surrounding wilderness. And just when you think it couldn’t get any better, Mother Nature once again puts on a show. At Point Ann Bay, the colour of the water is pure perfection. Anyone for a swim?! Where there is water, there is mask & snorkel.
There will be a picnic lunch with time to relax and take it all in.
Life in Bremer Bay is laid-back and mostly lived outdoors. You’ll find locals 4WDing along the beaches, fishing, boating, camping and hiking, with campfires adding to the simple pleasures of winter. It’s a warm, welcoming community, where a friendly chat with a local can easily become one of the pleasures of your day – and a chance to learn a little more about life in this special corner of WA.
When it’s time to eat, Bremer doesn’t disappoint either, with relaxed local venues, stunning views, galleries to explore and even its own brewery.
