About this trip

This immersion in indigenous wisdom blends ancestral knowledge and practices from North and South America in the enchanted high desert ceremonial center of Arawaka near Riberia, New Mexico. This experience is for people who are committed to using the teachings and practices shared in service of the Earth and humanity at this critical time.

In Arawaka, we do our best to follow our own Indigenous culture even when working with people of different backgrounds. As it is known, the methods of learning of Indigenous people are different from the methods of the modern world.

Our Guide and Leader

Arkan Lushwala is a rare indigenous bridge of the global north and south, carrying spiritual traditions from the Andes in his native Peru. His eloquence, as both an author and speaker, give expression to timeless wisdom in a refreshingly simple and digestible way. A skilled medicine man, and founder of the Arawaka ceremonial center and community in New Mexico, Arkan has been a close friend, ally, and advisor to the Pachamama Alliance for several years and is a strong advocate for our work with the indigenous people to permanently protect the sacred headwaters of the Amazon basin.

Lodging Details

At Arawaka (sacred nourishment), it's very important how we nourish our guests, bringing special attention to the sources, preparation, and how we serve food.
     * We offer three simple meals a day with vegetarian options available at all times.
     * We consider and include only "real" food allergies in our menus.
     * We have women's and men's bathrooms, with hot showers and space for people to store their toiletry.
     * We offer double accommodations in canvas tents, 10 x 14 ft. approx. We also have mattresses for each participant. Bring a sleeping bag. The tents are all-weather and very spacious.

We are off the grid and self-sustainable. Using this system appropriately, we ask people to take quick showers, no charging of any devices, and be responsible with the use of water and lights.
All of Arawaka is sacred ground. All buildings and structures are altars, so we appreciate that people respect these spaces accordingly. Please don't leave personal items, bags, clothes, backpacks, water bottles, etc., unattended in the buildings and no cell phones in the communal spaces.
