The Open Water Diver course is the first scuba certification level. If you’ve always wanted to take scuba diving lessons, experience unparalleled adventure and see the world beneath the waves, this is where it starts.
This certification allows you to take advantage of the PADI network and dive worldwide. Once certified, you are an autonomous diver and can dive up to 18 meters (60 feet) without supervision of an instructor – or 12 meters (40 feet) for 10 to 12 years olds.
Upon booking you will have access to your e-learning to learn diving theory. It takes about 8-10 hours to go through and has to be completed before your start date.
The course itself spans 2 days, with pool training in the morning to learn skills in a safe environment and 2 open ocean dives in the afternoons, to master them in real diving conditions.
Throughout the program, you will learn to use scuba equipment, control your buoyancy, respect sea creatures and overall become a confident diver, diving up to 18 meters (60 feet).
The Open Water course welcomes anyone aged 10 years and above who is eager to join the diving community and contribute to ocean conservation efforts.
No previous diving experience is required. However, before completing the course, PADI asks participants to complete a medical questionnaire and your instructor will assess basic water skills such as a 200-meter swim and a float and tread exercise, to ensure you are fit for diving and comfortable in the water.
Anyone who can fulfill the course’s performance standards can get certified. Adaptations can be made for people with physical difficulties to meet these requirements.
