About this trip

The Palcoyo Rainbow Mountain tour is ideal for anyone hoping to see the famous rainbow coloured mountains, but not wanting to trek for hours. It is far quieter and more untouched than the classic Vinicunca rainbow mountain. This tour is suitable for all fitness levels, with as many breaks to catch your breath as you need! During this tour you will see 3 different, beautiful coloured mountains. On your way there you will be able to see alpacas and llamas in their natural habitat and afterwards visit a colonial bridge.

Itinerary

Day 1
Palcoyo Rainbow mountain tour

We will pick you up early from your Cusco hotel at around 4:30am. The drive to Palccoyo is approximately 3.5 hours until we make the first stop in Combapata. When we reach the Palccoyo pass, we will walk uphill for approximately 40-50 minutes (5000m/16,400ft). Here you will have spectacular panoramic views of three Rainbow Mountain Palccoyo peaks as well as the highest mountain in the Cusco region (Ausangate).

We will spend approximately an hour here taking pictures, and enjoying the stunning view. After this, we will make our way back to our private transportation to head to Checacupe where we will visit its stunning colonial Bridge, (we will spend about 20 minutes here to take pictures and explore the area). After this, we will have time to enjoy a delicious lunch made by locals. We will then take our private transportation back to Cusco (approximately 2.5-hour drive). We will be back at Cusco at around 5:00 pm and will drop you at your hotel.

Note: It is important to mention that the route to go to Palccoyo is new as it is a relatively new attraction, therefore the roads can be very bumpy for about an hour each way as the government has not paved them yet.

We had an amazing time on our trip!!! The tour guides were all so knowledgeable and extremely friendly (shout out to Ronaldo and Henry)! All of the staff were incredible and they helped us through every step of the way, which we were grateful for. We had zero worries and zero hassle the entire trip because of that! Peru is absolutely beautiful with so much to see and do and this trip gave us the opportunity to see and experience a lot, which was amazing! Our only complaint were the accommodations in Cusco and Puno. Unfortunately, neither were a ‘3-star hotel’ and it was especially unfortunate that we got moved from our initial booking in Cusco (because the first hotel was fully booked) since the hotel we were moved to was not on par with what we had initially been booked for. I believe that if we had stayed in our initial hotel in Cusco then we wouldn't have had any issues with the Puno Hotel since it was for a shorter a time, we would have been able to handle it a little better. The hotel Tambo in Lima was very nice and a great location. Regardless, we pushed this aside and had a great time. The ease of your staff and all the activities made up for it.

Oh my goodness. I don’t have enough words to describe how amazing this trip was!! The whole process was made seamless by the hard work and help from the team. From start to finish we were amazed by the organisation of everyone to help us pack in so many amazing sights, places and experiences into our trip. It was varied, cultural and we felt like we saw as much as we could in the time we had (without being too exhausted to enjoy it!!) Couldn’t have asked for more in a trip, I wish I could go round again!!

We had a great time as a family!! Patricia was in charged of creating our itinerary. There were 6 of us, and we wanted to do different attractions. She was AMAZING making sure the itinerary was perfect form everyone. Before arriving to Perú, we already were happy with the service provided and how easy was to book everything. She was so kind, knowledgeable and professional. They were pretty organized, the day before you will get a text with all of the specifications for the attraction we were going to visit the day before. Every guide and driver we met was friendly and professional. I will never forget this trip. Food was delicious, accommodations were comfortable and it was worth the price. We took so many pictures!! If I ever travel to Perú again, I would definitely contact Into Peru to plan for my second trip.
