Tips
The journey begins with a scenic 130-kilometer transfer by van from Puerto Natales to the Sierra Baguales region. Upon arrival at Estancia Las Cumbres, a short 30-minute UTV drive takes us across open terrain to Baguales Glamping, where a small collection of comfortable domes is set in a quiet valley surrounded by the rugged landscapes of Patagonia.
After settling in, there is time to relax and take in the stillness of this remote corner of Patagonia. In the evening, guests are welcomed with dinner prepared by the Patagonia Horse Trips chef, featuring regional ingredients and traditional Patagonian cuisine. The meal is accompanied by Chilean wines and served beside a wood-burning fireplace, offering a warm and comfortable introduction to the days ahead on the trail.
Here guests will meet the horses for the first time. Each rider is carefully matched with a suitable horse to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience throughout the journey. The first ride is designed to allow everyone to become familiar with their horse and settle into the rhythm of the trail.
The route follows the rolling hills of Sierra Baguales, crossing open grasslands and quiet valleys with wide views of the surrounding landscape. Around midday, we stop at a traditional puesto, a small shepherd’s outpost, where we enjoy a relaxed lunch in the field.
In the afternoon, the ride continues through the Baguales countryside before returning to Baguales Glamping for dinner and a second night in the domes.
After breakfast, the ride continues deeper into the landscapes of Sierra Baguales toward the distinctive rock formations known as Tetas Las Chinas. As the day unfolds, signs of human presence gradually disappear, giving way to the remote and untamed character that defines this part of Patagonia.
Along the way, the area offers excellent opportunities to observe local wildlife, including guanacos, foxes, condors, and a variety of bird species that inhabit these open landscapes.
As the trail gradually descends, distant views of the Torres del Paine massif begin to appear on the horizon. By late afternoon we arrive at Estancia Las Chinas, a traditional Patagonian estancia where we settle in for the evening. Dinner features one of Patagonia’s most iconic meals: lamb slowly roasted over an open fire in the classic asado al palo style, prepared over several hours and shared in the relaxed atmosphere of the estancia.
After breakfast, we depart from Estancia Las Chinas for what is typically the longest riding day of the program. The route covers just over 40 kilometers, following open valleys and wide Patagonian steppe with continuous views of the surrounding mountains.
Around midday, we reach Laguna Azul, where we stop to enjoy a relaxed lunch by the lake while taking in one of the most iconic views of the Torres del Paine massif from the eastern side of the park.
In the afternoon, the ride continues toward the Laguna Amarga sector, where the horses are left for the night. From here, a transfer takes us across the park to Hostería Pehoé, located on a small island in the middle of Lake Pehoé, where we settle in for dinner and our overnight stay.
After breakfast, we return to the horses at the Laguna Amarga sector to begin a full day of riding across Torres del Paine National Park. The route follows open valleys and remote sections of the park, gradually revealing different perspectives of the Paine massif as the landscape changes throughout the day.
The ride continues toward the Serrano sector, covering a long and rewarding day in the saddle with a packed lunch enjoyed along the route. Along the way, the trail passes rivers, lagoons, forests, and wide Patagonian plains that characterize this part of the park.
By late afternoon we reach the Río Serrano area, where the horses remain for the night. From here, a short transfer takes us to Pampa Lodge, where we settle in for dinner and a two-night stay.
After breakfast, we transfer to the Administration sector of Torres del Paine National Park where the horses will be waiting. From there, we begin a ride of approximately two and a half hours toward the Grey Lake area. This section of the trail crosses more open terrain, allowing for longer trots and canters along the way.
Upon arrival near Grey Lake, we remove the saddles and say farewell to the horses that have accompanied us throughout the journey.
We then continue to Hotel Grey for lunch, followed by a boat excursion to Grey Glacier, where we explore the lake and admire the impressive ice formations descending from the Southern Patagonian Ice Field.
After the excursion, we return for dinner and our final overnight stay.
On the final morning, breakfast is served before a transfer back to Puerto Natales. Arrival is expected around midday, with drop-off at local hotels or the airport according to departure schedules.
