About your trip

Explore Chile's Lake District on Our 3-day Soft Adventure Stay.

The Patagonia Prelude will give you a taste the natural beauty, culinary traditions, and hidden gems of Chile's Lake District — a taste that will delight all of the senses.

We'll marvel at the flora and fauna of millennial forests, refresh the senses at volcanic hot springs, and set foot on the snow-capped Volcán Villarrica.

All from the comfort of Casona La Colina, a boutique hotel and wellness space nestled into the hillside of Villarrica — the cozy lakeside town known as the gateway to Patagonia.

Accommodations

Casona La Colina — formerly Hosteria de la Colina — has been welcoming travelers and nature-lovers for 35 years.

A boutique hotel and retreat space set atop a hillside at the edge of a small woodland with vibrant gardens and breathtaking views, La Colina will invite you to step outside of time… to reconnect with nature, and refresh your spirit.

On-site amenities include access to the massage room, a sauna and wood-fired hot-tub, as well as a daily housekeeping, on-site chef, and concierge receptionist.

Food and Dietary Needs

La Colina's kitchen serves meals that focus on wellness, featuring a huerto-a-mesa menu, that incorporates fresh fruits and vegetables from the property's garden and local producers, and highlights traditional flavors and preparations.

The kitchen at La Colina is prepared to take care of guests with special dietary needs including vegetarian, vegan, pescatarian, keto-friendly, gluten-free, and lactose intolerance.

Location

The Into Patagonia Experience takes place in Villarrica, Chile and surrounding lakes, nature reserves, and national parks.

Villarrica is the capital of the Zona Lacustre or Lake District and the gateway into northern Patagonia. This area is known for its lakes, waterfalls, volcanoes, and millennial forests, boasting incredible flora and fauna.

Villarrica is also home to the Mapache people, who continue to preserve the traditions, cuisine, and language that has shaped this land for hundreds of years.

In the Mapuche worldview, time is not a straight line but a living cycle — shaped by seasons, and the rhythms of the land. In southern Chile, this sense of time is felt in the unhurried flow of rivers, the slow turning of forests, and a quiet awareness that the past and present exist side by side.

Ideal For

The Into Patagonia Experience is thoughtfully designed for travelers who value depth over pace — those who seek meaningful connection and the quiet luxury of time well spent.

Our emphasis on slow travel and small group sizes offers you a personal connection with your hosts and travel companions and an immersive experience in northern Patagonia’s natural beauty.

We welcome solo travelers, couples, and small groups.

Best enjoyed by guests aged 25 and over (a recommendation rather than a requirement).

We’ll end the evening with sunset cruise in sailboat over the lake, dinner and a boutique wine tasting led by Rodrigo Moraga, an experienced Chilean winemaker and enologist.

Day 2

Spend the day in one of Chile’s most iconic natural sanctuaries, where ancient araucaria forests and glacier-fed lagoons lie under the watchful eye of Volcán Llaima.

Some highlights of Conguillío National Park include La Araucaria Madre, a 1,800 year old monkey puzzle tree — Araucaria araucana — and the Trufel-Trufel waterfall.

As evening settles in, we’ll gather for live music featuring traditional Chilean and Argentine ballads, while sharing impressions of Conguillío’s biodiversity over a traditional Chilean fire-side asado (barbecue).

Day 3

By now you're quite familiar Volcán Villarrica, its ever-present slopes quietly keeping watch in the backdrop of each activity.

In Mapundungun, Volcán Villarrica is called Rukapillan, which means "the house of the great spirit."

No stay in Villarrica would be complete without making its acquaintance.

To liven our own spirits, we'll start the day the with a coffee tasting at Eco Mapu, a local specialty coffee-shop known for its dedication to the craft and creative incorporation of regional flavors.

In 2025, Eco Mapu was awarded #10 Best Coffee Shop in South America, taking the #2 position in Chile.

Afterwards, we'll journey up the volcano, for an invigorating walk in the national park with spectacular photo-taking opportunities.

About your organizer

Your hosts are the family that owns and operates the La Colina Estate as well as the founders of Travel Chile Insider Excursions.

As the caretakers of La Colina over the past 12 years, we developed a passion for welcoming travelers into the magnificent nature-scapes of Chile's Lake District.

"Rather than simply providing lodging, we wanted to do something more meaningful.

We regularly found ourselves listening to our guests stories over dinner, helping them disconnect from everyday stressors, and guiding them towards the hidden gems and unique experiences in our area.

Overtime, La Colina Retreats and Travel Chile Insider evolved as a way to create our own signature experiences at the La Colina Estate, inviting travelers to celebrate the culture, cuisine, and natural beauty of Chile's Patagonia."
