On this excursion we will visit the viewpoint of Punta Flecha and Playa Las Canteras from where the coastal watching of the Southern Right Whale is carried out.
In the months of August and September is where we have the best chance of seeing newborn calves. These beaches, located 17 km from the city of Puerto Madryn, are within a PROTECTED AREA, where this species finds calm and a suitable place to reproduce in complete tranquility, since births occur in shallow waters close to the coast giving us the opportunity to appreciate them up close at that particular moment.
Departures at high tide times. Search and return to the hotel. Duration: 2 hours approx.
In this circuit, we will visit Punta Tombo, the largest Magellanic penguin colony in South America. From the coast we will have the chance to observe seagulls, skuas, giant petrels, cormorants and oystercatchers. Given the extension of the area, characteristic species of the steppe such as guanacos, rheas, maras, foxes and others also cohabit.
There will be time to get to know the visitor center and its hostel. This circuit includes a visit to the port of Rawson, where passengers who wish can enjoy an optional navigation to see bottlenose dolphins, also known as Patagonian dolphins.
We travel approximately 380 km within the fauna reserve that has the greatest biodiversity in the central Patagonian region. The UNESCO World Natural Heritage Committee awarded the qualification to the Valdés Peninsula in 1999.
We will visit the C. Ameghino Isthmus Interpretation Center where we can appreciate an exhibition on the flora, fauna and geology of the place; Puerto Pirámides, a tourist village from where boats set sail for whale watching from June to December and nautical tours in summer; Caleta Valdés and Punta Cantor depending on the time of year, to observe sea lions, elephant seals and Magellanic penguins from September, as well as enjoy a unique landscape given by this very particular geological formation. During the tour of the open sea coasts there is the possibility of spotting orcas, according to the fauna calendar.
On the roads we travel and in the surrounding fields we can also observe a diversity of terrestrial fauna such as guanacos, rheas, maras, armadillos, and gray foxes.
