Great experience despite the super rainy weather. Rainforest definitely has its own charm with pouring rain. Amazing guide Chris, showed us animals we would never spot. Mama sloth with the baby was the most amazing highlight. Had no expectations about the hot springs but actually loved it, perfect treat after the rainy day. Thank you! 

Hanging Bridges, Arenal volcano, Lunch and Hotsprings

The tour was awesome!!!! If you only have a short time in La Fortuna and want to get in as much as possible, this is exactly the four to take.  Everything was timed out perfectly and the guide, Rasta, had a wealth of knowledge to share.

Adventurous trip through the jungle with our stellar guide, Christian. Great stay in the cabin with 75 year old Severino. 

We also liked the river crossings.

Hike Fortuna to Monteverde

Actividad muy recomendable. Todo muy bien organizado. Nos acompañaron los guías Melanie y Emmanuel, fueron muy atentos con nosotros. Una buena manera de ver en un día varios de los atractivos de la zona de Arenal.

We had a wonderful day with our guide, Ronei. He was knowledgeable, informative and very courteous. We are seniors and he treated us like queens.  We loved the hike, the lunch and the springs with the private cabanas. Recommend this tour. 

Morning Volcano Hike Lunch and Hot spring

This was a wonderful jam packed day full of adventure and even a sloth sighting. Our guides Rene and Emanuel were welcoming, knowledgeable, and fun! They did a great job of explaining things in English for us. The day started with an easy pick up right from our AirBnB in the time window they gave us. The waterfall was powerful and beautiful but we preferred swimming just around the corner where the water was a little calmer. Then the mid morning pineapple was to die for before we climbed back up (tough steps but worth the work) After typical local style lunch was the volcano hike - we had a beautiful clear day where we could see in every direction. And we learned so much about the volcano and the wildlife around us. We saw many birds, a snake, a couple of coati, and even a sloth way up in a tree. That was my number 1 goal in my whole trip! Our guides had a great scope so it was even clearer for us. Topping that all off with the hot springs was the perfect ending to the day. The hot springs were a little crowded at first but there were plenty of pools to meet every temperature and open space needs. It was a busy day but my whole group agreed that it hit everything we wanted to see and more!

Full day arenal Volcano la fortuna Waterfall and Hotsprings

Me and my wife ellie had a great experience on the two day hike from la fortuna to monteverde, 
It felt real and traditional, seeing a part of a different side to Costa rica

This was a once in a lifetime opportunity. The trek was hard but so worth it. The guide, Christian, was so knowledgeable about all the plants and animals and taught us all that is wild Costa Rica. He was down to earth and very enjoyable company, not stuffy or rushed like a lot of tourists guides are. Wholeheartedly recommend this tour and the tour guide. 

Pasamos un día genial... La cascada de la Fortuna es un verdadero paraíso. La excursión está bastante completa pese al esfuerzo físico que representa los guías hacen todo lo posible y más para que se haga lo más ameno posible. Mención especial a ellos Marcos (viejo verde de parte de los canarios) sabes que son bromas y Uriel ( con sus charlas profundas) son de los mejores guías que hemos encontrado sinceros, implicados en su trabajo, simpáticos no se le puede pedir más. Muchas gracias chiquillos seguid así para que el turista quede igual de contento que nosotros. 

Fantastic experience which we'll never forget! Cannot recommend this hike enough

The trip was amazing. The guide Uriel was very nice and he explained us a lot about the forest and its inhabitants. 
The hike was nice. There are two river crossing, maybe it would be better telling it before to participants to make them well prepared with shoes etc. 
The house was very simple: there are bathroom and a shower (very basic) and beds with sleeping-bags. 
The meals were delicious and enough. The food were splitted through participants to take it up the mountain: good idea, but better telling in advance to let them have space into backpacks for carry it. 
It is a very good experience if you like hiking in order to live the forest truly. 

Big bang for your buck, come prepared to hike A LOT and see a lot in one day.

We had an amazing time. The sites were beautiful and we got to swim in a nearby river and even get some souvenirs. Our guide Cristian (nano) was the best! He was knowledgeable and found so many animals for us to see. 

Rio Celeste Tour from la Fortuna

The tour was absolutely wonderful. Chris was an excellent guide and incredible at spotting wildlife. I'm definitely glad I booked a tour otherwise, I would've missed out on viewing a lot of the wildlife. Chris was so knowledgeable and wonderful. The food was also good. I had such a great day. 

Our guide Chris was passionate  about sharing all of his experiences, expertise and knowledge about  beautiful  Costa  Rica with us.  He took great care of us  for 11 hours!  We saw lizards, snakes,, frogs spider monkeys ,  toucan  and more!!!   All four amazing   stops  and wonderful food along the way !!!!

This was an excellent way to see the high points of La Fortuna in a short period of time. It was somewhat physically strenuous, however, our guide (Diego) took his time and allowed those who needed a break time to take a break. Our guide did an excellent job of giving us historic information as well as information and spotting local wildlife. The end of the tour is at the hot springs and this is the part I would skip. I would have preferred a natural hot spring experience than the pools. 

Such a unique experience. Our guide Christian was very easy going and knowledgeable. I very much recommend this trek to anybody wanting to get off the beaten track!

Fuimos con nuestras hijas y lo.pasamos genial.  Los tres guías eran muy domésticos h en todo momento nos atendieron muy bien. La cascada era preciosa de película y luego el tentempié muy rico. Gracias ha sido fantástico. 


No hay palabras suficientes de agradecimiento para la experiencia que tuvimos en el Tour full day de La Fortuna. Nuestro guía, Chris, demostró un compromiso y una pasión por su trabajo que supo transmitirnos y nos llegó verdaderamente. Tuvimos un inconveniente de fuerza mayor en la ruta dado que había un accidente que trababa el tránsito y no sabíamos si íbamos a poder completar el tour con la atracción final de las termas. Chris se comprometió a poder finalizarlo haciendo mucho más liviana esa situación con su calidez. Sin dudas súper recomendable. Volveríamos a hacer cualquier experiencia con ellos.

We had a great time! Carlos was super informative & even offered to help with walking up & down stairs, carrying & watching bags. The lunch was ok & the hot springs was not our favorite, but it's a great tour to get the highlights in. Would definitely recommend to anyone wanting to fit all the experiences into one day. 

Red Lava is the way to go for your tour needs in Costa Rica! Their tours are safe, affordable, and absolutely amazing. Our tour guide, Carlos, was incredibly knowledgeable, patiently answering all our questions and ensuring our safety throughout the trip. He is not only a great guide but also a wonderful person!

We did the combo tour, which included hiking Arenal, visiting La Fortuna Waterfall, enjoying a delicious lunch, and relaxing at Termalitas—an absolute must after all the adventure. It was a full day of fun and exploration! Just be sure to come prepared for the hike—bring water shoes for the waterfall and proper hiking shoes for the trails. If you’re traveling with kids, like my 12-year-old daughter, having snacks and water on hand is definitely a good idea.

Thank you again, Red Lava! We’re already looking forward to booking another tour for our last day in Fortuna—we simply cannot wait!

Fantastic Experience with Red Lava!

We had a wonderful time on our Mistico Hanging Bridges tour with lunch and Termalitas. The hike to the hanging bridges was easy, and we loved the pace of the walk, allowing us to truly observe and immerse ourselves in nature. The meal was fantastic, and ending the day at the hot springs was a perfect treat.

This was our second booking with Red Lava, and once again, they did not disappoint. Their level of service is top-notch—they genuinely care about providing a wonderful experience. Even though we were outside their usual pickup area, they made special arrangements to ensure we were picked up and dropped off on time. Their responses were always prompt and professional.

I highly recommend Red Lava for your tour needs! Their experiences are both affordable and unforgettable. This will definitely be our go-to company, and we’ll be referring more business to them. Thank you for another amazing adventure!

Mistico hanging Bridges tour

The two day trek was a stretch for this retired couple, but we thoroughly enjoyed the experience.  Our guide Franklin was extremely knowledgeable and encouraging.  The accommodations were definitely rustic.  We especially enjoyed the group meal cooked on the authentic wood stove.  The views were amazing. The trip was the highlight of our Costa Rica trip.

We had a really fun time, our guide, Nano was top, we enjoyed every moment. The only detail I would change would be to dedicate more time to the volcano area

Wonderful experience. Melanie did an excellent job leading the tour. She was insightful and kind and made it an exceptional trip. All the locations were stunning as well! 

The hike from La Fortuna to Santa Elena with Red Lava, was a very nice way to discover the landscapes and surroundings. It is a tough trip at times because it often involves climbing. But before starting the climb we had a nice swim. Along the way you are completely immersed in the beautiful nature and Roney David, our frivolous guide, knew a lot about the plants and animals. We spent the night with Sefarino, a spry seventy-year-old. His house shines in all its simplicity between the mountain peaks. After all that climbing, our home-prepared Costa Rican meal tasted twice as good. Thanks to Roney who expertly guided us in this. This hike is recommended for anyone who wants to get to know authentic Costa Rica better. Koen en Michiel from Belgium

This trip far exceeded our expectations! The driver picked us up at our hotel in La Fortuna right on time. After a quick trip to the headquarters to fill out a form, a large group of 20+ people formed. We were worried the tour would be crowded but we were split into smaller groups with our group having 10 people. A tractor hauling a big crazy trailer drove us up to the waterfall area. The 20-minute drive was fun and we saw two Great Currasows, a huge rare bird. At the top of the waterfall area there were bathrooms to change into swimsuits and the guide cut up a pineapple for us. Be aware that the hike down to the waterfall is basically just 300+ stairs, some of which are a metal grate and some are carved into the rocks. And then you have to hike back up. The base of the waterfall was crazy! We had probably almost an hour there to swim, admire the falls, and walk around to where we could actually swim in the waterfall pool. The water crashing down made it like a wave pool! It started raining heavily on our hike back up but it was fun. Bring a rain jacket and wear shoes and bring flip flops! Bring a towel and a dry shirt and water! After arriving back at the top we changed into dry clothes and then got onto the regular bus back to the headquarters for lunch. It was a cafeteria style lunch with rice, beans, salad, and either chicken or fish although I asked for and got both. It was pretty typical Costa Rican food. We had about 45 minutes for lunch. Then we drove ~30 minutes to basically the other side of the volcano to hike up the lava fields. The hike was short and easy, maybe 1/2 mile. The sky cleared a bit and we got a view of the volcano. Our guide was really fun and engaging. We never felt rushed. He had a lot of information about local plants and animals. I occasionally had trouble hearing him but that was probably my bad since I generally linger at the back of the pack on group activities. The day ended with a trip to the Relax Termalitas hot springs and a drink made from Cacique, the local liquor. We decided not to take the ride back so we could stay at the hot springs longer. The hot springs were great! Lots of pools of varying temps and you could buy drinks and take them in with you. It was kind of a party vibe but wasn't crazy or too loud, lots of kids and families. If you go on your own its only 10 bucks and you can stay all day. Overall a great full-day experience, well worth the money, you get to see and do considerably more than if you tried to do all of those things on your own. And it didn't feel "touristy" except for the beginning and the getting on the bus parts. Highly recommend anyone do this tour as long as they can physically manage the stairs. Some folks were struggling, I ended up getting a deep tissue massage the next day which was a great idea for my poor calves! But, I was planning on doing that anyway.  

We had a fantastic time ziplining with Red Lava! All of our guides took individual care of each of us. I was a little afraid and Jefferson rode with me in my first zipline and that gave me the confidence to do more! We loved the whole experience! We also used Red Lava for our volcano hike and waterfall hike. The guides knowledge of plant and wildlife was incredible! They pointed out sloths poisonous frogs Toucans and more! Everything we came to Costa Rica for!

Really disappointing. We were really looking forward to this trip, but it got off to a bad start and ended that way. We received nothing from the tour operator regarding pick up time. I reached out via WhatsApp and got no reply. We then ended up calling them the night before (around 5pm) to ask what time we would be collected. To their credit, they arrived at our hotel to pick us up on time, but that is as far as the positivity goes. We got on the coach only to be told they had a few more pick ups. At the last pick up location, they allowed people time to get off the bus and do what seemed to be their weekly shop (we sat on the coach for around 20 mins waiting for them). We then arrived at the hanging bridges approximately 45mins later than the itinerary stated on the red lava website. At this point we were told we’d be split into 2 groups. It would appear this was the operators way of sticking to the “max 12 people” group size they had falsely advertised. There were, in fact, 23 of us on the coach, which we believe accounted for why we ended up being so far behind schedule. Our tour guide didn’t seem to know the answer/s to a majority of the groups questions - he was having to ask other tour guides at the bridges!! We then went on to the volcano. We arrived at approximately 12:45pm. The guides got off the coach and then returned saying they had “forgotten” we had pineapple to eat at the visitor centre before moving to the upper car park to begin the walk. The rest of the group were all given pineapple; however for some reason, we were not, despite being with the rest of the group. At this point, 4 people from the group chose to leave. My partner and I stayed as we wanted to do the hike. We asked the tour guide if we could go and walk on our own, but we were told that this was illegal and we would be arrested?!?! After reaching the view point we decided to make our own way down to the bottom and promptly booked ourselves a taxi back to the hotel, feeling so disappointed we did not want to hang around and wait for the rest of the group to do the afternoon activities. We informed the tour operator that we were leaving the tour early as it was not what we were expecting. This was at 1:30pm so by this point the group were running over an hour behind schedule. We thoroughly recommend booking tickets for each of the attractions yourselves and going and doing them individually. An all around terrible experience. 

It was a great day with Lava tour ! Starting from the Fortuna waterfall, nice and fresh swimming moment, visiting the Maleku tribe , tasty lunch, great journey to see volcano and amazing moment in the hot springs! Unforgettable ! We advice you this type of excursion if you would love to discover a lot of things in one day!

We really enjoyed the walk. The river crossing was fun,  even though it came up to the waist, we soon dried out. The path climbs quite steeply through the forest, almost continually until the short descent to the cabin so travel as light as possible. We had a fine sunny day, not too hot once amongst the trees. The path condition was damp but not overly muddy or slippery. 

Our guide was excellent,  keeping us informed throughout the hike, and taking a steady pace. 

Our overnight stay in the cabin was interesting. Food was cooked for us on an open wood fire, a traditional meal and plenty to eat, sat around a candle lit table.  The cabin owner has quite a menagerie, two dogs,  a cat, and several hens that all have individual characters making themselves at home in the cabin. 

As the sun set the glow from fireflies lit up the meadow. We took sleeping bag liners. Sleeping bags were provided. 

It rained overnight, no views over the hills, volcano or lake,  and continued raining almost until we descended towards Monteverde. Windy too, but easy walking along the gravel track.

Overall, a great trip and a highlight of our week hiking.



We had a really good time. The personnel were really helpful and nice.

My friend and I had a great time on this full day tour. Even though we were picked up a little late than was stated in the confirmation time, the driver explained how busy it was that morning, which we were very understanding about this. The tour guides were friendly, entertaining, and knowledgeable about each aspect of the tour. Our tour guide, Carlos, was very friendly and made sure we were having a good experience. He took pictures for us, as well as making sure we saw all that we could get to see in the eco park, Arenal volcano, and waterfalls. He also made sure we had a fun and relaxing time at the Hot Springs.  Some of the hikes and walking were moderate to strenuous, especially going up many stairs or steep paths. But we were allowed to take breaks as needed and were very encouraged and supported to continue when ready.  

Tourguides Carlos and Alex wright were great. Super interresting Informations. Geht Lunch. Hot springs were super relaxed. In total fantastic activity. 

Axel and Melanie were fantastic guides! Very knowledgeable and made the hike a fun experience even though the weather wasn’t ideal. Pointing out mimosa plants and farmer ants that we definitely wouldn’t have noticed, as well as other interesting features. We highly recommend that you take advantage of this tour.

What an amazing experience. Loved every second of it. Didn’t want to stop walking! 

Leuke excursie gehad! Ondanks dat het hard regende toch een prachtige dag gehad en genoten van de mooie kleuren van Rio Celeste! Top dagje gehad! Ook nog wat slangen gevonden door Santiago!
