Once we have all arrived in Lima, we'll be making our way to our hotel in Miraflores. Tonight we'll be having our first dinner together to get to know each other in person. This will be a dinner experience you won't forget as we'll be having it somewhere pretty unique!
Lima is one of my favorite cities and I'm so excited for you to get to see it! We'll do a city tour around Barranco, the bohemian neighborhood. Afterwards we'll head to a local restaurant for our cooking class! We will learn to make Causa Limeña, ceviche, and Pisco sour.
After lunch, we will visit the three eras of Lima’s history, including the Contemporary (the city’s most traditional residential areas), Ancestral Lima (which includes a panoramic view of the Pucllana Pyramid, a ceremonial centre built in the 4th Century CE), and finally Colonial Lima (which takes you through Lima’s historic centre and includes the Plaza San Martin, Plaza Mayor, and San Francisco museum).
Today is an early start to get to our destination. The Ballestas Islands in Paracas are an iconic Peruvian sight, but they can only be seen from a tour boat. We will enjoy a traditional lunch at a local vineyard and taste some local Pisco. Afterwards we'll get to know the impressive Huacachina oasis, ride buggies over the giant dunes, and enjoy the incomparable desert sunset before heading back to Lima for the night.
Today we are heading to the Amazon Rainforest! As we arrive in Puerto Maldonado, our guide will welcome us at the airport. Our tour here will start with a visit by bus around the city.
From here we will go to the port where our riverboat will be waiting for us. We will sail across the Madre de Dios River till our lodge (30 km away from Puerto Maldonado). In the afternoon, our specialized tour guide will take us through an interpretive trail to the Caimán Cocha, a small lagoon where we can see the black caiman and the white caiman, terrible predators at the top of the food chain of the lake.
After an early breakfast, we will start a trip in the riverboat (about 1 h and 15 minutes). We'll arrive to the Sandoval Lake where we will begin a hiking excursion (90 minutes) through the tropical forest.
In the afternoon, accompanied by our specialized guide, we will visit Monkeys Island, situated a few minutes away from the hotel in the heart of the Madre de Dios river.
After a good night´s sleep and breakfast, it's time to say goodbye to the rainforest and head to Incan Empire capital, Cusco. Upon our arrival, we will be met by our local guide and be transferred to our hotel in the Sacred Valley.
Today we'll be exploring Peru's Sacred Valley. We'll head to Chinceros where we'll learn about the ancient Andean weaving and dyeing techniques that this colorful community is famous for. After that, we’ll spend most morning in the heartland of the Incas, surrounded by rich agricultural farmland, as we take in the Inca site of Moray followed by a home-made lunch in the traditional community of Misminay.
After lunch, we will be transferred to Chichubamba for an authentic, heartfelt journey where we’ll not only learn but also actively participate in the traditions that make this region so special.
Today we start making our way towards Machu Picchu! We'll start by traveling through the Sacred Valley, stopping to visit the ruins of Ollantaytambo. From here, we will travel to Machu Picchu by train through gorgeous, changing vistas until reaching Aguas Calientes where we’ll spend the night.
Note: We will only have the chance to travel with a small backpack to Aguas Calientes. The rest of our luggage will return to Cusco.
This is the big day! Wake up early in order to visit Machu Picchu by the early morning light. Our guide will tell us everything we need to know about this World Wonder. Then, we will take an afternoon train back to Ollantaytambo, arriving in Cusco by private transport in the early evening.
Our Cusco City tour introduces us to this fabulous city by exploring its Incan and colonial roots. Visit key sites like Koricancha and the Cathedral, plus get an insider peek into the Cusco of today as we roam Cusco’s narrow cobblestone streets.
We will walk to the Sacsayhuaman scenery, which is the most important in the festival. The Inti Raymi ceremony lasts about 90 minutes. It is performed in Quechua but is visually powerful. Our guide will also be able to translate sections of the ceremonies. In the late afternoon, when the Inti Raymi celebrations have ended, your guide will walk you to your hotel.
Then we will have free time to wander around and do some last minute shopping before heading to our final dinner.
After spending an incredible 12 days together it is time for our journey to end. Now we have experienced the best of Peru from the coast to the rainforest to the mountains and the World Wonder of Machu Picchu. You will leave with enough photos and videos to last you for a lifetime of memories and hopefully new amigas as well. I can't wait to see you on the next aventura!
