Welcome to Lima, the foodie capital of South America! From the street carts selling spicy anticuchos to the fine dining restaurants serving the finest quality ceviche, the minute you step foot in this city, you’ll be immersed in the sights and smells of Peruvian gastronomy. To truly immerse yourself in the bustling foodie culture of this city, on this day you will join Local Guide and professional chef Carlos on this authentic culinary adventure. Your day will start at the vibrant and busy Surquillo market where Carlos will lead you through, teaching you about the unique and fresh produce found in the area. After immersing yourself in this local market, the group will return to the beautiful hotel Runcu to put those fresh ingredients to good use. Once at the hotel, it's time to create and taste all the incredible flavors of Peruvian cuisine, starting with the national drink of Peru, pisco. Carlos will start the class by leading a pisco tasting, where you will learn the heritage behind this drink, and how different grapes influence the flavors of each type of pisco. With your newfound pisco knowledge, you’ll next get to make Peru’s beloved cocktail, the Pisco Sour. With your pisco sour in hand, you will then prepare the three staple dishes of Peruvian gastronomy: ceviche, causa, and lomo saltado. Carlos will be there teaching you everything from cooking techniques to secret professional tips to interesting facts about the dishes you are preparing. Then it's time to enjoy the fruits of your labor. An experience designed not only for your tastebuds but also to teach you about Peruvian culture and heritage, this class will leave you with an understanding of why food is so important to the city. Not to mention, you'll have plenty of recipes to impress your friends with when you get home!

Go off the beaten path, spend a day in a local community, and experience Lima beyond its touristic areas! This full-day tour will take you through the sandy slopes of Lima's desert outskirts to visit one of the city's settlements, where migrants from all over Peru created their own communities in search of a better life. While these diverse communities may be some of the poorest neighborhoods of Lima, your knowledgeable local guide will show you why they are not defined by poverty. On this tour that showcases the rich Peruvian culture, a strong sense of community, and positive initiatives of these communities, you will witness both an authentic and optimistic outlook on this way of life in a safe and interesting way. 

• Your guide will pick you up in a secure van, then will drive you to the first location.
• You will first visit the second largest cemetery in the world to witness its beautiful colors and learn about Andean burial traditions.
• Next, you will go to the home of a local artisan who has started her own fair trade handicrafts cooperative.
• After, enjoy a tasty lunch in a local family's home.
• Visit a small, local NGO and learn about the progressive movements happening today within the communities.
• Return to your hotel.

Early in the morning, you will have a short drive to the airport to take a one-hour flight to the city of Cusco. If possible, we will try to get a seat on the left side of the aircraft so you can have the chance to see some of the best views of the Andes. Upon arrival to Cusco airport, you will be met by our local representative and taken in private shuttle to your hotel in the Sacred Valley.

On route, you will visit Moray, one of the most unusual Inca sites consisting of circular terraces built upon a natural depression, which seem to have been an agricultural experimental station used to adapt crops to different temperatures. Then you'll continue to Maras, an impressive salt-extraction complex consisting of thousands of small terraces. During the dry season they fill the pans every 3 days with salty water that comes from a natural spring; once the water is evaporated, they collect the salt they have been selling at the markets of the region since before the Inca times. Lunch will then be served at a nice local restaurant in Urubamba. Tonight you'll spend the night at a cosy and comfortable hotel called Pakaritampu.

Today is the big day! In the morning, we´ll board the train heading to Machu Picchu Town. The train journey is a spectacle in itself as we'll be able to appreciate the changing landscape from green fields and eucalyptus forests to lush jungle, always travelling beside the meandering Urubamba River. Upon arriving, we´ll be given our exquisite box lunch before taking a 20-minute bus up the steep zigzagging road to Machu Picchu Citadel, located on an impressive mountain setting.

We'll first have a 3-hour guided excursion so we can have a better understanding of Machu Picchu and the Inca's culture. Your guide will be happy to answer all the questions you may have. Afterwards, you''ll have free time to continue exploring every corner of the Lost City of the Incas at your own pace.

After visiting Machu Picchu, you’ll return to Aguas Calientes in order to take the train back to Ollantaytambo village, where you will spend an extra night at a cozy and comfortable hotel.

Today, after enjoying a nice breakfast, you''ll walk from your hotel to the Ollantaytambo archaeological site, an impressive Inca complex that protected this

area from incursions from the Amazon Basin. Ollantaytambo is one of the best examples of Inca architecture still in existence. We'll then be able to walk along its cobblestone streets and have a look around the village. Afterwards, we´ll get ready to experience a traditional cooking technique called Pachamanca. You'll be able to see (and if possible, to participate) in building the Pachamanca oven, which in Quechua means “Earth Pot”. This is a traditional cooking technique where the food is prepared underground with preheated stones and covered with banana leaves to separate ingredients from the soil. The main ingredients are Potato, Olluco, Oca, Mashua, corn, barley and other Andean products as well as beef or lamb and Andean aromatic herbs. Afterwards, you'll continue straight to Cusco airport to take your flight to Lima, where upon arrival, a local representative will assist you in transferring you to your hotel: Casa Suyay.

Today is all about enjoying the natural side of Lima and sailing in the Pacific. Pick-up from hotel is at 9.30am as we make our way to the Marina in La Punta. Here we board our very own Moani yacht and begin our sailing excursion across Lima Bay and its islands. We'll sail to the Palomino Islands where we can observe hundreds of sea lions and local sea birds from up close. We then sail to a tranquil nearby spot where we can relax, enjoy a fresh ceviche and, if it's sunny, have a swim before returning to the Marina. We should be returning to our hotel around 5.30pm.

Today, you'll have some free time to maybe take a last walk around Lima’s shops and markets and then, at the coordinated time, you'll head back to the airport to board your international connecting flight back home.
