About this trip

Tuff crater and land of marine wildlife

Pinzón Island, also called Duncan Island, is surrounded by deep waters and has remained isolated from all other islands for eons. The unpopulated island sits at the center of the archipelago, its area is 18 sq km (7 sq mi), and its high point is found at 458 m (1502 ft). The island is dominated by rocks, low spiny vegetation, and sparse tree growth. It is common to watch Darwin´s finches, Galápagos doves, vermilion flycatchers, Galápagos snakes, and its own species of lava lizard and giant tortoise. Divers and snorkelers can swim next to hammerhead and Galápagos sharks, and sometimes with other pelagic species, including rays and sea turtles.

Description

The departure is going to be at 8:00 am from Puerto Ayora Pier where our guests will embark on an amazing marine wildlife expedition on Pinzón Island. First, our guests spot at No Name Rock –“Roca Sin Nombre in Spanish”– where it is possible to snorkel next to the stunning hammerhead and Galápagos sharks, and other pelagic species, including rays and sea turtles. Then, snorkelers will spot at La Encañada in order to enjoy marine wildlife watching. So, it is possible to observe Galápagos snakes, marine turtles, sea lions, and marine iguanas. The last snorkeling spot is at Penguin Bay –“Bahía Pingüino in Spanish” –, this site gives to the travelers a great opportunity to see many sea lions, turtles, reef sharks, rays, fish and sometimes even the Penguins the bay is named for. As the tour is run by fisherman there is a short fishing time, and any fish caught are served as fresh sushini. The beach and whitest sand time is going to be at Palmita or La Fe (it depends the captain), both places offer beautiful rest and walking time. Hot and luscious lunch will be served in the boat cabin. Around 3:30pm departure to Puerto Ayora Pier.

It is recommended to wear a wetsuit in order to neutralize the sea temperature because it falls under 20ºC from September to December and it is up of 27ºC from January to August.
