About this trip

The Plus Size Travel x Bali trip is a group tour organised by Kirsty Leanne (@kirstyleannetravels).

With travel being so daunting for so many, we understand just how important it is to be with people who just *get it* when it comes to travelling in a larger body.

That's why we want to create trips that act as a safe space for those that want to travel.

When?

The trip will run from 5th April 2023 until 15h April 2023. Depending on your flights, you may find it easier to arrive the day before. The trip ends at 11 am on the 15th, but you're welcome to leave earlier if you need to.

If you do need to arrive earlier, we are happy to help you find a hotel to stay in the first night, as access to the villa will not be available until the 5th. If that's you, pop us an email at plussizetraveltoo@gmail.com and we'll sort it for you!

So, what is included?

We wanted to plan an INCREDIBLE trip for you, so we've included some amazing activities alongside accommodation and transport throughout the trip. This is what you'll get included in your ticket price:

  • Private minibus for the duration of the stay
  • Welcome Meal with drinks included
  • Floating Breakfast at the hotel (the PERFECT Insta photo)
  • A massage treatment and plus size friendly flower Bath at a much-loved Ubud Spa

Reviews

I had a fantastic time on this trip. Having 10 strangers all go in a trip together can be daunting but we all gelled and Kirsty helped to get us all talking. The itinerary was jam packed but Kirsty listened to our wants and managed to free up some more time so we could go explore some must sees that weren’t part of the itinerary and we were grateful for this! The trip started off quite relaxed and built up to a few busier days, which I liked as helped me settle in and get rid of jet lag! All activities were plus size friendly and I felt we were clearly communicated to about what each trip or activity included. I really liked the WhatsApp summary of an eve with detailed plans and info on what not to forget. The accommodation wasn’t without its faults for some of the group but Kirsty ensured she chased the management down to resolve things quickly and we couldn’t have asked for more in those cases! Our trip involved lots of traffic and that’s Bali for you! We had a knowledgeable driver though which meant we were aware of ceremonies in advance and Kirsty replanned schedules to accommodate this. It didn’t mean we missed traffic but we missed the worst of it overall! I wouldn’t hesitate to book again with Kirsty and would recommend the trip.

This was Kirsty's first time organizing a trip like this. Overall a wonderful experience. I think that there is also opportunity to grow from this and only make the next ones better. 1. The platform WeTravel - There were only two options for payment. Pay the deposit and then pay the balance by the deadline. I wish there was a feature to put amounts down between the time the deposit is paid and the final amount is due. It would be nice to be able to make installment payments prior to the final payment due date. 2. Everyone is coming to this adventure from different levels of travel experience. I liked the WhatsAp group that was set up. That was a good way to get to know people before hand. It makes sense that airport transfers are the responsibility of the traveler. Having two or three suggestions on who and how to book upfront as part of the package would be helpful. I understand there may be considerations around promotions or advertising, but where possible, explaining how to book, and what to expect upon arrival is very helpful. 3. Communication with the group is imperative. Take every opportunity to communicate what is happening, what to expect next. You will never be accused of overcommunication. This was lacking. There were times where information on start times were heard third hand and there was confusion on what one should expect. It is tempting to answer on individual person and then information spreads uncontrolled. Have a controlled and defined communications plan and don't deviate from that so all individuals get the information at the same time. The end of day summary that was sent out on whatsap on a couple of evenings was very good. Take this to another level. Communicate in more than one way and through more than one medium. I had heard from a couple of people it would be nice to have a end of day "newsletter". The day's highlights and what to expect and do for the next day. 4. Your role is a travel coordinator/travel experience leader. You are the go to person and the trusted support. Your trip is a working adventure. It's important to maintain that division. You are in charge. Your role isn't peer. You get to direct people if needed. You can't make everyone happy which is a crummy spot to be in sometimes. 5. The trip was very front end heavy with activities. It was nice to hit the ground running! I really enjoyed that. However, perhaps a better balance between free days and activity days across the trip would be nice. I felt like we didn't stop until near the end of the trip. Which can be good certainly! For me a one on one off might have felt better. 6. We spent a lot of time driving. Oh my goodness. I still can't wrap my head around a three hour drive to go 35 kms. Knowing what you know now, look for balance in that too so there isn't so much time spent in vehicles. It was overwhelming on one day. Overall Kirsty, the notes that I have provided in no way colour my experience. I had a wonderful time. It was so much fun. It is clear that you are on the path to creating something great. I know that you will take any feedback from any of the travelers and weigh it and consider it and only make your travel groups better and even more memorable. Congratulations on a very successful travel experience! Take care, Tracey

Hi Tracey! Thank you so much for your review, I’m so glad you had an amazing trip! I wanted to say that although I am there as a travel provider, I am also there to be people’s peer too. I’m sorry if that wasn’t understood when booking. I hosted these trips so people had a chance to travel with me and make friends - including with me. I was happy to make a friend in every single person that attended and wouldn’t have had it any other way, especially as I don’t think this impacted the organisation of the trip in any way :-) I know that on a few days timings changed, but this was due to things out of my control (ceremonies, weather, road closures etc) and so I communicated this info as soon as I had everything confirmed and in one place, as well as updating the group document with changes. If someone asked me a specific time while we were out and about, I would rather answer them there and then as they may have needed the information for their own personal plans etc I agree, the end of the night WhatsApp messages were fab and I’m glad you liked these too. I’ll be doing these in every group trip I run for sure :-) I’m sorry you were not happy with the amount of driving - unfortunately traffic in Bali is something I can’t control and in order to do the things on the itinerary we had to go from one place to another often. This is the nature of group trips like this one, in order to fit things in, you have to spend a bit of time driving. If there was an easier way to get from A to B, I’d have definitely done it! Bali traffic is something I’ll never get used to, haha! Finally, I am sorry you felt there was too much on the itinerary. There are several different types of group trips you can book onto, this was one that was quite on the go, balanced out with moments to relax (I.E the beach club, free days etc). All of this was detailed at the time of booking, with a list of what was included and a day by day idea of what we’d be doing. I agree that one of the quieter days became more jam-packed as we had to rearrange a few things due to rain, but when the group was asked everyone said they were okay with moving a few things to ensure we didn’t miss anything. I hope this answers any concerns you had about the trip! Thank you so much for coming along to the first one - it was so fab having you there!! ❤️🥰
