These highlights offer a sense of what to expect. But in true expedition style, each trip is shaped by the weather, snow conditions and the collective experience of the group. Your guides will adapt each day to make the most of the Arctic, so be ready for a dynamic adventure.
After your afternoon arrival, we’ll take a short drive to Mary-Ann’s Polarrigg—a former miners' barracks turned cosy hotel. Over drinks and snacks, you’ll meet your fellow travellers before heading to the harbour to board the Ocean Sherpa. Once we meet the crew and settle in, we’ll enjoy a welcome dinner while sailing into the majestic Isfjorden (Ice Fjord), anchoring before midnight.
We’ll kick off the day with a hearty breakfast in Isfjorden, then set off to ski pristine Arctic peaks. Our expert guides will tailor the day to your pace and preferences—expect gentle slopes around 30 degrees, with steeper descents available for those seeking more of a challenge. After eating lunch surrounded by snow-capped mountains, we’ll get a few more runs in before skiing back down to the ship. As we glide toward St. John’s Fjord, you can relax, freshen up and enjoy a pre-dinner drink, followed by a delicious meal prepared by our onboard chef.
We’ll explore the dramatic terrain of St. John’s Fjord, flanked by towering glaciers and frozen peaks. Situated in Oscar II Land (named after the former King of Sweden and Norway), this region offers fresh mountains and unforgettable skiing. By now, you’ll be in tune with the rhythm of boarding, skiing and dining in wild places. If conditions allow, Captain Gerlé will set course for Krossfjorden in the evening.
For another day of skiing, we’ll sail to Krossfjorden, where Spitsbergen established its first whaling station in 1611. As we make our way through this remote region, you may spot remnants of its rich history scattered along its rugged shores. Massive tidewater glaciers dominate the landscape, creating a stunning backdrop for world-class ski touring.
We’ll journey to Prins Karls Foreland—a narrow, mountainous island that’s home to the world’s northernmost harbour seals and a prime spot to see walruses in their natural Arctic habitat. On the island’s rugged terrain, we’ll ski glaciers and summit icy peaks, taking in sweeping seaside views along the way. In the evening, we’ll sail back to Isfjorden for the next day’s adventure.
Returning to land, we’ll spend most of the day skiing near the Russian-owned mining town of Barentsburg. We’ll dock in the harbour overnight, giving you a chance to explore this unique settlement shaped by a special international partnership. Capping off the day, we’ll visit The Red Bear Bar and Brewery—a lively gathering place for miners, scientists, polar explorers and adventurers alike.
On our final day on skis, we’ll return to Isfjorden to explore fresh mountain terrain before making our way back to Longyearbyen. To mark the end of our Arctic journey, we’ll gather for a farewell dinner aboard the Ocean Sherpa.
After breakfast, we’ll disembark Ocean Sherpa and drive you back to Longyearbyen Airport, with plenty of time to catch your flight.
