      About this trip

Puglia and Basilicata are fascinating, yet underappreciated regions of Italy. If we think of Italy as a boot, these regions cover the heel and instep, sandwiched between Adriatic and Ionian Seas.

This tour takes in a wide variety of cities, towns, hidden spots, olive producers, winemakers, and delicious meals while giving our guests time for exploration.

      Itinerary

      Days 1-3
      Matera

Day 1 - You will meet your group in Bari in a central location. From there, the tour will kick off with a visit to the Castel del Monte, one of the most interesting castels built by Holy Roman Emperor, Frederick II. Tonight we will arrive in one of the oldest cities in the world, Matera, and enjoy our first dinner together.

Day 2 - Today we will take a walking tour of Matera. Matera is famous for cave dwellings in which people lived until the mid-20th century. We will see period homes, cave churches, and explore the city that once was called “the shame of Europe”. You’ll have a free afternoon and evening to explore the city.

Day 3 - We will go on a field trip today to explore more of Basilicata. Our day will start in Gravina, which is like a miniature Matera and was also a set location for the most recent James Bond movie. We’ll also enjoy a group lunch together before heading to the town of Altamura, which is famous for some of the best bread in Italy. We will head back to Matera for a free evening and dinner on your own.

We had a great time. The leaders were personable, knowledgeable and always helpful. There was a lot of flexibility in the scheduling, which was nice, so that everyone could decide what they wanted to do - and then share. I highly recommend Sarah as a group leader!

This Japan adventure was just what I needed! The pace was right with sights, excursions, and time to rest and relax. The free time each day was great for exploring the area and checking out things that were of interest to me. Once the trip started, I liked being able to send my luggage ahead and pack a small bag for 2-3 days to our next destination. Sarah did a great job planning places to stay and sights to see, so I felt I had an overall Japanese experience.

We had a wonderful trip traveling with old friends and meeting new ones with a superb guide who knew so much about so many things about Jordan culturally, historically, and geographically. We loved every minute!

We had a fantastic time trying new foods and experiencing new things. I always felt comfortable and taken care of by our guides. Although it was terribly hot and humid we still had a great time meeting new friends, swimming and snorkeling together. We will definitely go on another Adventures with Sarah tour.

This was an amazing trip! We had a fantastic time. Our local tour leader Muhammad was knowledgeable and hilarious! The hotels were nice and clean. All of the food was amazing. I felt safe the whole time, there were no issues at all. Highly recommend this trip to anyone looking to experience different cultures in a wonderful way.
