There is a Tangier that most travelers never see.
Behind unassuming doors in the medina and hidden among lush gardens overlooking the sea are extraordinary homes filled with art, antiques, textiles and objects collected over a lifetime. They belong to the designers, collectors, writers, gardeners and wonderfully eccentric characters who have long been drawn to this fascinating city on the Mediterranean, at the northern tip of Africa.
For five nights, I invite you to experience this private side of Tangier.
Private Tangier is an intimate, highly curated journey created for just seven women with a love of beautiful interiors, gardens, craftsmanship and culture. Over four full days, we will be welcomed behind closed doors into some of Tangier's most remarkable private homes and gardens, many of which are rarely accessible to visitors.
Our days may take us into the worlds of British interior designer Veere Grenney at his Tangier home, Gazebo; Italian writer, botanist and horticulturalist Umberto Pasti at his legendary garden, Rohuna; collector and antiques dealer Gordon Watson at Dar Ouazzane; designer and author Nicolò Castellini Baldissera at Casa Tosca; and interior designer Marco Scarani, co-owner of New York's Creel and Gow, at his Tangier home, Dar Zero.*
But this journey is about much more than seeing beautiful rooms.
We will linger over hosted lunches and meals in private homes and gardens, meeting some of the fascinating people who have made Tangier their home and hearing the stories behind the places they have created. We will discover how they live, what inspires them and how Morocco's extraordinary craftsmanship has found its way into their interiors.
And then we will go to the source.
Alongside these private visits, we'll step into the world of Tangier's talented artisans, intriguing cultural institutions, antique dealers and beautifully curated concept shops. We'll seek out the workshops, markets and makers behind many of the objects and traditions we've encountered in the homes we've visited.
