About this trip

Join us for an unforgettable week. Nourish the soul with this transformative journey. Build community as we enjoy the treasures of Spain and its culture together.

Our journey together will be held in three parts.

Part One: In preparation for our visits you will dive deep into the designs we will encounter. Through poetic presentations on the Camino and its sacred architecture, you will discover the symbolism, rhythms & profound patterns in Celtic, Roman, Visigothic, Romanesque, Gothic art & architecture.  You will see these designs with new eyes and appreciation by drawing them using ruler and compass and experience the joy of geometry as a meditative and contemplative practise.

Part Two: Experience the architectural treasures first hand with on-site sessions (the best classrooms!).  Visits to prehistoric petroglyphs, exquisite pre-Romanesque churches and Gothic cathedral embedded in the breathtaking landscape of the mountains of Asturias.

Part Three: Create beautiful  pieces using natural pigments that you will learn how to collect, prepare and paint with.

Enjoy delicious home cooked healthy meals and good wine under the pergola, vine and fruit trees. You will be staying in a heritage site, a village considered one of the most beautiful in all of Spain. Share with others in a unique setting dedicated to pilgrims, pilgrimage and its art.

What a wonderful magical place Bertrand and Basia have created. Nestled into an amazing historic village that feels out of time. I had the pleasure of partnering with them on this retreat and it was a wonderful experience. Such care and attention have been paid to the restoration and preservation of this space with its beautiful courtyard where we spent time creating and connecting. Delicious homemade food is lovingly served by our hosts every day. Bertrand and Basia have a wealth of knowledge to share and an open and friendly countenance. Our excursions into surrounding areas to explore the architecture, geometry, and history we're steeped in the spirit of the Camino. I am looking forward to returning next year!

Flores del Camino is a beautiful, comfy nest, where this traveler felt at home. The historic building has been lovingly refurbished with every creature comfort but retaining the authentic charm. It is a perfect setting for a retreat. The hosts, Basia and Bertrand are warm and welcoming. They know the surrounding area and have much to teach about history, geography, spirituality, the Camino, and their specialty, Sacred Geometry. This retreat, with Sharon Zeugin, touched all my sweet spots—art, calligraphy, church history, Celtic spirituality, and theology. The space is well suited to the kind of artistic practices on offer. Thank you for a deeply meaningful week that exceeded all my high expectations.

I had a wonderful time. The hosts shared their knowledge of sacred geometry, provided field trips to reinforce the studied materials and allowed each participant to select the design they would ultimately carve. Detailed explanations were given for the geometry as well as for the process of carving the designs. Nick Durnan encouraged and aided us in the process of creating our chosen designs. I brought home a piece I can be proud of, and will be able to continue exploring this art form. The accommodations were cozy and comfortable in a beautiful pueblo in northern Spain. We enjoyed delicious, healthy food. I’m looking forward to next year’s event!

I enjoyed a wonderful week learning a new skill of Stone-carving based in the most beautiful village in Spain. The weather in September was warm and pleasant. The house you stay in is very comfortable and beautifully decorated, so you feel at home straight away. The peace and calmness are very relaxing, and lets you very quickly adapt to the slower pace. All meals were delicious and very healthy. Basia opens with an introduction about The Camino and the background. The stone-carving course begins with Bertrand explaining in the comfortable upstairs studio, a step-by-step way of producing these wonderful patterns through Geometry on paper. A long time since I used a compass, but very easy to use. Next, it was over to Nick, our master stone mason, to give us practical demonstrations in the downstairs workshop. He gave us advice on the various options for decorating our stone and the tools used. He was a very patient and calm person to work with, and he also worked on his stone carvings, so you could see an expert at work while you worked/took a break. He did make it look very easy and it is not. My advice would be keep your chosen pattern simple. Your size of stone allows you to try different ideas. A wonderful experience and I am sure I will return there again.

A life changing experience. Bertrand and Basia provided a nurturing and inspiring environment to stay during a week of drawing and painting mandalas. All the tutors were professional and gave detailed and relevant talks and lessons that focused on traditional sacred art and geometry techniques giving step by step lessons for advanced geometry forms based on symbols found across both eastern and western architecture. We learned to make natural paints with local pigments, visited stunning local sites that ranged from 5thb.c- 14tha.d providing us with opportunities for onsite sketching, photography and meditation. The food and accommodation was 5star and we even got to witness a local festival unique to this area where the village celebrate the Fiesta de la Magdalena and dress up in traditional dress, castanettes, dancing and shared drink and food. Above all, I met amazing people who all shared a love and passion for sacred geometry.
