Terrible experience, poor organization.
The agreed-upon itinerary was not followed. In 4 days we were supposed to visit an Indigenous community and walk through the jungle, among other activities. None of this happened because every day new passengers boarded the boat, and the activities were repeated so the new passengers could do them. We went out three nights to look for caimans, did two bird-watching outings, and had two swims to look for pink dolphins. I did not pay for that; I paid to visit Indigenous communities and walk through the jungle, exactly as stated in the itinerary. If I refused to repeat the activities, was I supposed to stay on the boat for 3 days doing nothing?
I expressed my frustration to Lisando, the person they told me was the boss, on the day he came to the boat, but he didn’t say a single word to me. I felt like he didn’t care at all and only wanted us on the boat to get our money. The activities promised in the itinerary they sent me were not skipped due to bad weather, rain, or mosquitoes (which were everywhere—on the boat, in the pool…), but because new passengers were boarding every day and they had to keep them happy. December is the rainy season; that’s why I asked if the jungle walks were still done, and they told me yes.
Another example of the terrible management is that we wasted an entire day that wasn’t even part of the itinerary. On the first day they took us to see some huts (which were actually restaurants) where there was only one woman. What was I supposed to see there—the Indigenous community? On the next “excursion,” if you can call it that, they took us 200 meters further from the first place to see a man in his hut while the crew collected mangoes. Is this what I paid more than €1000 for? Absolutely not.
On top of that, there is no continuous electricity during the whole trip. They turned on the power three or four times a day, and shut it off completely around 10:30 p.m. After that, there was no fan or air conditioning (though they claim there is). Imagine trying to sleep in 27-degree heat with high humidity, hoping a bit of air would come through the window. And you have to shower and brush your teeth with river water, since the bathroom doesn’t have “normal” water.
The best part was the guides (Johnny, Waldo, and Alejandro), who did a great job. On the other hand, we had the feeling that the cabin crew were laughing at us. Several times they looked at us, talked among themselves, and laughed. The second, and last, positive point is that the food was good, although one day they ran out of milk and another day there was no butter.
In short, if I had to go back, I wouldn’t. I would invest my time and money in another company. The Amazon is worth visiting, but not with this company.
We really enjoyed our trip on the Flotel. We had some travel disruptions, which is common in Bolivia, and Reina Enin was very accommodating to last minute travel changes. We were well received and made to feel like we were at home. The transport to and from the airport all went smoothly. They took our personal interests into account when planning shore excursions and activities. The guides were super knowledge about the local environment and friendly, the meals were excellent and the captain keep us safe and sound. You are on a rustic river boat, so this is not a Viking Cruise, but for the cost, I thought the experience was an excellent value and we hope to take another trip with them in the future.
We had a wonderful time on the Reina de Enin! The captain and crew were thoughtful, skilled and generous with their time and expertise. Food was good and often local. We saw some really incredible wildlife over the course of 3 days. We'd absolutely recommend the Reina to friends.
I had a very nice time in very nice landscapes. The captain and his crew are very dedicated to the well being of the clients. And the food is very very good (I am vegetarian) !
They are many interesting activities offered to the clients. I have a suggestion : one of these activities could be the recollection of the plastic bottles floating on the rivers. Hopefully, they are not so many, but it is really a pity to have this pollution in so beautiful landscapes. It would be very useful for nature and it is also that known that such an activity is therapeutic !
