Embark on an unforgettable photographic journey to the breathtaking landscapes of Patagonia, Chile, renowned for its stunning natural beauty and rich wildlife. This unique trip focuses on capturing the puma in its natural habitat, providing photographers and wildlife enthusiasts with the perfect opportunity to witness and photograph these majestic animals in the wild. Nowhere else in the world can one have close, intimate experiences with these amazing cats like in Torres del Paine National Park and the surrounding estancia.
Our adventure will take us into the Torres del Paine National Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve known for its dramatic mountains, azure lakes, and sprawling glaciers.
As we explore this pristine wilderness, our main focus will be on finding and photographing pumas, the apex predators of the region. With expert guides trained in tracking the movements of these cats, you’ll learn about their behavior, the history of the area and photography while getting up close to these magnificent creatures, especially during early morning and late afternoon when they are most active.
While pumas take center stage, the biodiversity of Patagonia offers many other species and birds to see and photograph including guanacos, condors, foxes, owls, Caracaras and Magellanic Woodpeckers
Patagonia’s natural beauty is nothing short of awe-inspiring. Towering granite peaks, glacial lakes, and sprawling valleys create a diverse and dramatic landscape that changes with the light—offering endless opportunities for stunning landscape photography. Capture the golden hues of sunrise illuminating the Torres del Paine mountains or the reflection of snow covered peaks in the pristine stillness of the numerous lakes that dot the landscape.
Join me on this unforgettable adventure and take home memories and images that will last a lifetime. Whether your focus is on pumas, the rich avian life, or the stunning landscapes, this trip is a photographer's and wildlife enthusiast's dream.
We have special permits that allow us the use of the private estancia where the real magic happens. Only a few select guides have access to these areas where we will have opportunities to "walk with pumas" and have close and intimate experiences with the cats during our entire stay in Torres del Paine.
Top notch guides. We'll have the best guides in the area whose experience together spans decades. They have led documentary teams like BBC and National Geographic and have a deep understanding and knowledge about these cats, their behavior and movement, and the landscape they call home.
A dedicated tracker in his own vehicle scouting pumas for us in advance
Small group size. With participation limited to just 5 guests, we will have lots of opportunities for one on one photography guidance and quiet, intimate experiences with the cats.
To participate in this trip, you must be in reasonable physical condition and be able to walk on your own carrying your own equipment. Although our guides will do their best to position us close to puma locations, you may be required to walk over potentially brushy terrain and up and down hills as the pumas move. There is potential that we may follow along with pumas for a couple kilometers or more.
Including first night
All meals including welcome dinner
Our trip starts the evening of arrival with a welcome dinner where you'll get to meet your fellow travelers and talk about the adventure that lies ahead.
We will be picked up at our hotel and have lunch in town before embarking on our scenic drive to Torres del Paine National Park. Get your cameras ready because the beauty of this place is unsurpassed! By evening time, we will check into our lodge and have dinner and a briefing. Enjoy learning about the area and the diverse animal and bird life in the park and surrounds.
We'll have 5 full days to track and photograph pumas. We'll be going out before sunrise (you don't want to miss the gorgeous sunrises here) to locate pumas. Once we find them, we'll either walk to them and spend time photographing them or walk with them as they move to other areas. We might be in the public part of the park or on private estancia where we have special permits. During the day, we might go check out other scenic areas of the park, look for other wildlife and have lunch before returning to look for pumas in the afternoon for sunset.
All good things must come to an end and today we will say goodbye to our new friends and head back to Santiago. After breakfast, we will check out and spend some more time sightseeing in the park before driving back to Port Natales to catch our flights to Santiago. Lunch will be provided before going to the airport.
