Quilotoa Volcano is the westernmost volcano in the Ecuadorian mountain range, it's located in the Province of Cotopaxi 83 km southwest of Quito. Within its volcanic building, 6 km in diameter a caldera was formed 2,9 km in diameter and 640 m deep where there is an alkaline lake 3,6 in diameter and 240 m deep. The extinct Quilotoa volcano has had in the last 200 thousand years a series of at least eight eruptive cycles being the last approximately 800 years ago (in the XII century) eruption that had affected Pre-Columbian civilization that had to migrate.
