On the first day, We will visit the city of Quito, a world heritage city with a magnificent Old town. Its cobblestone narrow streets will seduce the lenses of our cameras, Only to be further amazed as we visit some of the churches.
Then we travel to LA MITAD DEL MUNDO monument
and also The CASA DEL HOMBRE museum
An amazing trip due south through the Andes with breath-taking views of several Volcanoes: Corazon, Pichincha, Rumiñahui, Pasochoa, Illinisas are some of the snow covered mountains that we will admire on our way to Cotopaxi.
Upon arrival at the Cotopaxi plateau the views are even greater, The Cotopaxi is located in the middle of a mostly flat plateau at 3,400 meters up to the summit of the Cotopaxi Volcano rises 5,897 meters above sea level.
Thevehicle will drive us to the parking area that is at approximately, 4300 mts, ASL leading to a refuge that is at approximately 4800 mts. ASL.
The views are truly breathtaking as we cruise the area.
On the above mentioned plateau westside of the Cotopaxi there is LIMPIOPUNGO lagoon, a walk it is very much advised since on the opposite side you can take photos of the Cotopaxi volcano´s reflection on the surface.
Return to Quito
Visit to the province of Imbabura Guayllabamba Valley,
Cayambe (tasting of bizcocho and queso de hoja), visit to Laguna San Pablo, town and market of Otavalo, town of Peguche, lunch at the home of local indigenous people, visit to the town of Cotacachi (view of the true Middle of the World). Return to Quito.
Cotacachitown (leather town) and the Cuicocha lake is a must do.
Even the description seems a fantasy tale.
The Cuicocha mountain is a four craters gigantic volcano, one of the summits melted several hundred thousands of years ago forming a lake on a lower crater which happens to be still an active volcano!! So much an active volcano that there is an uprising in the middle of it forming now two islands... Again: A lake formed inside an active volcano and inside this lake we have now two islands .
When we cruise through the lake we can see the sulfur bubbles coming to the surface
Truly a must visit
This day will allow us to participate in one of Quito's most underrated adventures: the ascent of Pichincha.
A low-difficulty climb, a long but gentle ascent.
We'll explore and notice the changing vegetation as we climb.
The view of Quito during this ascent is incomparable, and we'll also have the opportunity to see most of the volcanoes along the famous Avenue of the Volcanoes, named by the renowned German geologist Alexander von Humboldt.
Cayambe, Antisana, Altar, Cotopaxi, Illinisas, Tungurahua and Chimborazo are some of the snow covered mountains visible form this vantage point of view
