Description:
It is time to reconnect with Nature. In a time when fifty percent of people across the world live in cities, we are further and further distanced from the ecosystems and wild places we come from. Where better to rekindle old connections than a place with the greatest array of life on earth: the Amazon Rainforest. At a remote research station, participants will be immersed in pristine forest, a biological reservoir of unmatched diversity, beauty and of course, ADVENTURE!
The Las Piedras watershed is located in the sacred headwaters of the Amazon Basin, the system that contains 1/5 of our planet’s fresh water, produces 1/5 of global oxygen, sequesters a substantial amount of the world’s carbon, and is home to more biodiversity and threatened cultures than anywhere else on earth. Here you will have access to places no one has ever set foot. Where the quiet thrumming of the forest is a roar of life. The Amazon is also home to trees, streams, waterfalls, wildlife, and more stars in the sky than you have ever seen before! It is in this incredible, life-altering abundance that you will have the chance to become immersed in nature at a level rarely felt.
Juan Julio Durand Torres (JJ for short) has been with Tamandua Expeditions since day one. Born in the Esa Eja indigenous community of Infiero, JJ was raised with the forest. While JJ is an avid birder, his knowledge of medicinal plants, mammals, and forest sounds is something to behold. His adventurous spirit, and innate curiosity make him an excellent guide, bringing out the best in everyone. He has played a major part in the training of nearly everyone who has worked with Tamandua Expeditions and we are delighted to have him as part of our Tamandua Family.
