About this trip

Join movement and breath guide, Rebecca Jo, and her incredible assistant, teacher and intuitive tarot reader, Davidia Turner on a private beach in Mexico for a week of slowing down, reflecting,  connecting with yourself and others, delicious local food and plenty of time and space to be what you need to be to feel right in the world.

Part secluded retreat, part (optional) continuing education training for teachers, this week will be a fun and informative deeper exploration of the patterns that shape our daily lives and what guides us to where we're going.  Through breath practice, movement, meditation and discussion we will work on calling personal power back into our lives, so that we can set up healthier and more sustainable habits for a more embodied way of being.

In working with the energies of seasonal change, we will explore our instinctual patterns, get comfortable with our shadows and learn tools to sooth ourselves throughout the process of growth and transformation.

Set during the transition of the seasons and the closure of another year, this week will not only see a New Moon but a Solar Eclipse as well, giving us the perfect time to reflect on our experiences, celebrate growth, connect and form community around mutual respect, acceptance and appreciation.

Daily movement and breath practices will be offered as an opportunity to explore ideas around what it means to be both stable and spacious, and how setting healthy boundaries can lead to a more profound opening of self.

This retreat is designed to be just that - open and spacious, but contained all the same.  The week will be full of opportunities to explore the land, connect and play, but I also encourage you to linger in the quiet moments when you need them.

About Playa Viva

Playa Viva is an eco - luxury sustainable boutique hotel located on the western coast of Mexico, just 35 minutes south of Zihuatanejo/Ixtapa International Airport. Nestled between the sparkling waters of the Pacific Ocean and the majestic Sierra Madre Mountains, Playa Viva is situated on a mile of pristine and private beach.

The property’s nearly 200 acres includes an estuary, an Aztec archeological site, a turtle sanctuary, and a coastal forest and mangrove ecosystem which supports an array of stunning wildlife.

With a focus on  positive social and environmental impact for the local ecosystem, Playa Viva provides an all-inclusive experience that combines simple elegance with natural luxury.  All rooms are oceanfront and are outfitted with luxurious locally sourced organic sheets and towels, biodegradable soaps, organic shampoo, lotion and conditioner in your bathroom.

The Practice

Each morning will begin with a 90 minute yoga practice followed by a 30 minute pranayama breath work session.   All levels of ability and experience are welcome and will be supported in their individual needs.  Longer practices allow more space for personal exploration and insight, and give room for asking questions and participating more fully in this practice of learning.   The evenings will be reserved for reflection, restoration and relaxation.

In addition to our daily movement and breath practices, I will be offering additional yoga teacher development training courses throughout the week in body reading, understanding energy, hands on adjustments and working one on one with your students.  Continuing education credit will be given upon request.

Attendance is always optional, but encouraged.

About Rebecca Jo

Conscious Movement and Breath Guide

Inspired by the rhythms of the natural world, Rebecca Jo guides her students into their own innate patterning through practices of breath awareness, supportive movement and meditation.  Within each class she emphasizes the need to slow down and create a space for oneself that is both comforting and sacred.

Rebecca earned her 200hr yoga certification in 2009 while living on a self-sustained farm in the mountains of Spain.  She began her teaching practice in New York City, working privately with individuals recovering from injury; supporting them in finding acceptance and peace within their bodies as they redeveloped their physical strength and range of motion. Her practice is informed by the teachings of Abbie Galvin + Nevine Michaan of Katonah Yoga®,Tom Myers, Tias Little, Ana Forrest and BKS Iyengar among others.

Trained in the arts of dance, photography, and breath-centered movement she incorporates a lifetime of lessons into each class and encourages her students to integrate practices of conscious flow into daily life.

A life long traveler and eternal student, she seeks opportunities to immerse herself in new experiences and discover different ways of seeing the world.  She has led retreats and workshops in Mexico, Costa Rica, Morocco, Portugal, Thailand, NYC, LA and Denver.

Rebecca also holds a BFA in Photography from Parsons School for Design and intends to pursue graduate studies in Psychology.

Rebecca is an incredible teacher. She puts so much time and care into planning and executing her retreats. She is so mindful to make sure everyone feels included and comfortable. Her teaching is outside the box - if you have been doing yoga for a bit, you will love the fresh new way she teaches. If you're a newbie, you will be grateful for all the access points she provides and support she gives. She is a gifted teacher and a retreat with her will leave you changed in the best way.

I highly recommend any of Rebecca Jo’s retreats. I love her online classes and have had the pleasure of attending two retreats, in Tulum, Mexico and most recently, Portugal. Both retreats were well organized, but flexible enough to satisfy the wants and needs of the group as well as the individual. I have RA and was concerned that I would feel intimidated or unable to keep up. She structured the classes to enable students of all ages and levels to fully participate and get the most out of the experience. Beyond the classes, she took the time to provide me with techniques such as breathing exercises that could be woven into my very stressful work life when I returned home. Rebecca Jo planned amazing experiences and excursions. She made it clear from the start that we could do all of it or none of it. It was our retreat. Both retreats were in beautiful locations. It’s all in the details. The food and accommodations were amazing. Transportation was well thought out in advance for the group or individual side trips. From start to finish, it was a lovely stress-free adventure. I can’t wait to go again!
