About this trip

Escape the city for a weekend of Classical Pilates and yoga classes at the beautiful Mayacamas Ranch in Calistoga! Situated on a hilltop ridge above the hot springs and wineries of Napa Valley, this ranch is an expansive and peaceful retreat center with a focus on mindful living.

What’s included

6 organic meals
7 classes led by Greta Schroeder (as detailed in the itinerary)
Choice of the following accommodations (taxes included):
- Manzanita House dorm room ($520, limited availability)
- Double occupancy room ($640)
- Single occupancy room ($820)
*All rates are per person. 2 night minimum.

Not included

Field trip to Safari West for a small group tour on a 400 acre private wildlife refuge (Friday 10/7 from 1:30-3:30pm, $85). This conservation center is home to giraffes, rhinoceroses, cheetahs, and other exotic species.

Both yoga and the Pilates method use animal-inspirated movements intended to make the  the human body more efficient, graceful and powerful. Mr. Pilates believed that watching animals in nature can help us learn how to move with more ease and less strain so that we may have energy to pursue our more creative and/or spiritual goals.

Before You Go

This retreat is open to Pilates and yoga practitioners of all levels. The schedule includes a variety of class types and levels so you may choose whichever classes are best for you.

To prepare yourself to make the most of our time together, I encourage practitioners of all levels to listen to the following podcast interview with one of my favorite teachers, Amy Taylor Alpers: http://skillfulteaching.com/amy-taylor-alpers-interview-skillful-teaching-path-program/

Wondering what to pack beyond Pilates/yoga clothing and your toiletries? I recommend bringing a swimsuit, casual clothing for downtime and exploring the ranch (layers are a great idea!), a journal and pen, a good book, sunscreen and a hat.

To hold your space, a non-refundable deposit is due on or before July 1, 2016. The deposit will comprise of a $300 base rate for all travelers. For additional detail, click "book now".

I was introduced to classical yoga and Pilates while earning a B.A. in Dance at UC Irvine and while working as a professional dancer in New York and Los Angeles. I immediately loved that both practices were physical in nature, intelligently crafted and also had shared philosophies on how to live happier lives. These systems of movement believe human beings need both physical and mental challenges as well as restorative practices in order to enjoy a life of sustained health and energy. In addition to cultivating equally strong and flexible bodies, they help create more self-awareness, self-respect and self-appreciation. I feel lucky to have begun studying movement at an early age and to have been able to work with many experts in the dance, yoga and Pilates fields. I love helping students learn how to own and operate their bodies. They become more coordinated, less stressed, more self-confident and significantly stronger, which makes me very happy.
