Staying Refugio de Glaciares was a unique experience of being in the peace and quiet of nature in the fantastic setting of Patagonia. We did 2 guided hikes with well educated, knowledgeable young women who could talk about the surrounding glacial geology and ancient Lenga forest. Beautiful place to hang out by the fire and read a book when indoors. The food and wine was fun, well done and exceptional for such a remote peaceful setting.
I and my wife spent 5 nights at the Refugio de Glaciares and it was amazing! We toured the grounds on day 1 learning about the environment and conservation efforts at the Refugio, guided by a multi-lingual park ranger who explained everything to us in English. The next 2 days were touring the Refugio's private glaciers with the park rangers who were wonderful! The scenery was amazing, and we saw great birds and forest fauna. It was a don't miss!
The last days we spent fishing the nearby river for massive salmon and also the Refugio's private fishing lake. We caught 80 pound salmon in the river (which we released), and awesome rainbow trout in the lake. The fishing was so good!
The meals at the Refugio were gourmet, and the staff was incredibly fun and friendly!
We are already planning a trip back!
