Black women have been known to carry the weight of the world on their shoulders and have been routinely fed the toxic narrative and cultural expectation of  "the strong black woman".

We've heard over and over  “keep going”,  “get back up again” etc.  Black women are fed extreme messages of unhealthy endurance that keep us on a hamster wheel of personal neglect as we continue to endure painful experiences, with no solid tools and opportunities to support growth and relief.  To add to this exhaustion, black women are wearing these scars and unhealed wounds as actual  badges of honor.  Enough is enough. This social norm is leading to depression, weight gain and neglect. The time is now for true healing, freedom and pathways to the divine feminine experience. Simply put, black women are well overdue for a break and reset.  The Restore & Explore Wellness Retreat offers a safe space for black women to connect with mother nature, experience the vulnerability necessary for authentic healing and restore. 

The Restore & Explore Wellness Retreat is located in a breathtaking boutique retreat center in Playa Negra, Puerto Viejo, Costa Rica.  I call it a utopia of serenity. Sonora is an eco-friendly private retreat space located about a 15-20 minute walk or a 5-minute car ride to Playa Negra Beach, a beautiful and secluded black sand beach.  Sonora is located in a town rich in culture, positive vibes and a secluded, peaceful and safe location.  This quaint and newly remodeled boutique hotel is surrounded by powerful nature that gradually turns into a jungle, embraced by ancient trees, colorful flowers, and the sound of animals. The modern architecture of Sonora was created by Italian designers. It showcases elegant interior decorations, fine linen, cotton fabrics in soft colors with warm traditional touches of Caribbean wood. Each Caribbean style tropical bungalows is newly built featuring open air rooms with a private bathroom, hot water shower and private front porch. All rooms are modern concept with a fan, air conditioning and wifi. Rooms are cleaned daily and refreshed with fresh flower and palm decor.

The Restore & Explore Wellness Retreat is nonrefundable. This includes reasons of COVID-19 or any reason. It is strongly suggest that participants purchase travel insurance for any cancellation reason; you can request a refund through your travel insurance for any reason.  In the event of cancellation we offer one-time transfers. A one-time transfer to another retreat may be made 90 days or more prior to departure of retreat. 

Flights should be arranged to arrive at the San Juan Santamaria Airport (SJO) by 10/4/23. Like
most countries once you arrive by plane you will
travel to your desired destination.

All participants will book a one night stay in San Jose where we will rest from our travels and have introductory meet and greet.  We will all depart collectively by shuttle at 8:30am 10/5/23  to travel Sonora, our beautiful retreat location. The shuttle
bus ride is approximately 4 hours and is an incredible experience in itself. We will travel
through the beautiful and lush forests of Puerto
Viejo de Talamanca via shuttle bus with rest stops and photo opportunities along the way.

Currently there are no COVID-19 related entry requirements. Please keep yourself informed with the entry and exit requirements of both Costa Rica and your home country. U.S. Citizens must have a current valid U.S. Passport to visit Costa Rica.

Meals are prepared daily to include fresh organic local fruit and vegetables.  Fresh coffee, tea, juice, and drinking water will be available throughout the day.  All dietary restrictions are welcome.  Vegan and vegetarian options will be provided as indicated at registration. It is not required that you adhear to any dietary guidelines in order to attend this retreat. All food options from meat to plant-based will be provided.
