About American History Tours

We've been leading student groups to Washington, D.C., Philadelphia, Williamsburg, Gettysburg, Chicago, Tennessee and more for over 9 years.  Most of our school groups consists of students and parents and a frequent request is to provide an adult trip.  We've always thought the adults enjoy the trip even more than the students do.  So, we finally put one together.  It's our fist trip aimed at an adult audience, although students are allowed to attend as well.  This trip is an amazing historical adventure at just the right pace.  We'll spend some quality time at the sites, get some good walking in and have some amazing meals at quality restaurants.  To top it all off, we'll get to see Hamilton in New York City.  If you haven't seen the award winning musical live, you will be amazed.  If you have seen it in Chicago, Kalamazoo, or Grand Rapids, well-there's nothing like seeing it on Broadway in New York City.

Day 1

Welcome to Albany, NY

 

Day 1 - Sunday, August 8: includes lunch and dinner.


We’ll fly to Albany, NY. and get started with our fabulous tour by visiting the place where “the shot was heard around the world”.  Lexington Common National Historic Site and Minute Man National Historic Park..  We’ll end the day with a reception including dinner and drinks at the Old English Pub.

Boston's Freedom Trail

 

We’ll head to Boston’s famous Freedom Trail.  Where we’ll explore such historical sites as:  the Bunker Hill Monument, USS Constitution, Copp’s Hill Burial Ground, Old North Church, Paul Revere House,   Faneuil Hall, Boston Massacre Site, Old State House, King’s Chapel and so much more...we use professional-we'll be led by 18th century costumed guides.

The Turning Point - The Battle of Saratoga

 

Day 3 - Tuesday, August 10:  B,L,D

Today we’ll visit the first place in history the British military ever surrendered, considered the turning point of the war and one of the top 15 battles in the history of the world - The Battle of Saratoga.  Our visit includes a guided tour, Schuyler’s House, and Victory Woods.

The US Military Academy at West Point

 

Day 4 - Wednesday, August 11:  B,L,D

Today we’ll visit what General George Washington considered to be the most important strategic position in America, West Point on the bank of the Hudson River.  The academy is an institution of great historical, military and national importance, and began during the Revolutionary War.

New York City and the award winning musical, Hamilton

 

Day 5 - Thursday, August 12:  B,L,D

Today we’ll visit New York City where we’ll spend the day on a tour of lower Manhattan where George Washington and Alexander Hamilton made their impact on New York City.  Your expert guides will share about the Battle of Brooklyn, the first reading of the Declaration of Independence, ratification of the Constitution, the duel between Hamilton and Aaron Burr and more...this special day will end with the amazing, award winning Broadway musical - Hamilton.

Trenton, New Jersey and Old Town Philadelphia

 

Day 6 - Friday, August 13:  B,L,D

This morning we’ll explore Trenton, New Jersey and the Old Barracks Museum.  Most famously known for the events in December of 1776 but this historically rich area of New Jersey has so much more to offer.  

In the afternoon we’ll visit Philadelphia including Independence Hall, the Liberty Bell, Betsy Ross house, Ben Franklin’s grave and Constitution Center.

Alexandria, Va

 

Day 7 - Saturday, August 14:  B,L,D

Today we’ll visit Old Town Alexandria and the home of George Washington at Mount Vernon.  One of the most visited homes in North America, this authentically interpreted 18th century home, lush gardens, and intriguing museum is an incomparable national treasure.  We’ll also have time to visit George Washington’s Distillery & Gristmill.

Colonial Williamsburg and Yorktown

 

Day 8 - Sunday, August 15:  B,L,D

Today we’ll explore colonial Williamsburg where we’ll enjoy the world’s largest living history museum.  Over 300 acres feature more than 40 historic sites and trades, four historic taverns, and two-world class art museums.  

We’ll end our tour of the American Revolution by visiting Yorktown, the sight of the surrender of General Charles Lord Cornwallis’s British Army.

Home Sweet Home

 

Day 9 - Monday, August 16: B,L

After experiencing the trip of a lifetime.  We’ll head to Newport, Va and fly back home for some much needed rest.
