About this trip

We had a great time.  The leaders were personable, knowledgeable and always helpful.  There was a lot of flexibility in the scheduling, which was nice, so that everyone could decide what they wanted to do - and then share.  I highly recommend Sarah as a group leader!

Japan Private Group

This Japan adventure was just what I needed!  The pace was right with sights, excursions, and time to rest and relax.  The free time each day was great for exploring the area and checking out things that were of interest to me.  Once the trip started, I liked being able to send my luggage ahead and pack a small bag for 2-3 days to our next destination.  Sarah did a great job planning places to stay and sights to see, so I felt I had an overall Japanese experience.        

We had a wonderful trip traveling with old friends and meeting new ones with a superb guide who knew so much about so many things about Jordan culturally, historically, and geographically.  We loved every minute!

Jordan February 2024

We had a fantastic time trying new foods and experiencing new things. I always felt comfortable and taken care of by our guides. Although it was terribly hot and humid we still had a great time meeting new friends, swimming and snorkeling together. We will definitely go on another Adventures with Sarah tour.

Bangkok and Southern Thailand 2024

This was an amazing trip! We had a fantastic time. Our local tour leader Muhammad was knowledgeable and hilarious! The hotels were nice and clean. All of the food was amazing. I felt safe the whole time, there were no issues at all. Highly recommend this trip to anyone looking to experience different cultures in a wonderful way. 

The tour was everything I hoped for. We were fortunate to have Sarah as our tour guide as well as an assistant tour guide, Nikki, who is from Chiang Mai. Together they led a really great tour. Each of my tour mates were wonderful and we all got along well. The accommodations were very nice, especially the resort on Koh Yoa Yai, Koh Yoa Yai Village. This resort has spoiled me for life. The property is beautiful and serene, it consists of luxurious bungalows, the restaurant provided excellent breakfast and dinner choices, and the staff were friendly and accommodating. There was a high-pitched constant noise heard during the day that was very perplexing and it turns out that the noise is caused by insects. Fortunately, they stopped at night. 

One of the highlights of the tour for me was visiting Following Elephants ethical elephant sanctuary on Koh Lanta. This sanctuary has one male and five female rescued elephants who roam freely around the sanctuary with their Mahouts. We were standing there observing the male and two female elephants listening intently to our guide and they decided to walk right by us. It was such a treat to see elephants up close like that. They are magnificent creatures.

The other highlight for me was visiting the Surin Islands on a snorkeling excursion with a stop on an island inhabited by the Moken people or Sea Gypsies. When we arrived on the island, there was a volunteer doling out toys to the children and it was wonderful to see their excited faces. The village consists of huts made from materials found on the island and we were able to get a glimpse inside a few huts and observe how they live. Many of the inhabitants make jewelry and sell it to the tourists. The snorkeling was off the charts. The water is so clear in Thailand and the fish and coral are beautiful and abundant. 

Overall, I give this tour the highest possible rating and I will definitely sign up for another tour with Adventures with Sarah in the future. 

This was a nice blend of group activities and independent time to explore. Some of the activities that I was least excited about (like the Knights Templars tour) ended up being the most interesting and fun - a nice reminder to always keep an open mind. Sarah provided a nice overview of how to use the Paris metro system - this was fantastic! - I love that even after a few days I felt confident navigating the city using public transportation on my own. I loved the location of the hotel on Île Saint-Louis, and Hamid, the breakfast chef, was a real bright spot for everyone during the week. We had such a lovely group - everyone got along well and it was so nice to meet folks with common interests. 

StayCation Paris Christmas 2023

🎄 STAYCATION PARIS CHRISTMAS 2023. 🎄 I had a wonderful time🤗!  When I signed up, there was no set iterinary at least for us potential traveler, but I have traveled with Sarah enough to expect adventures and activities that are seldom available on others or must go/do.  I have really enjoyed this Paris Staycation! Besides the activities you get to be part of a new family for a week! I know I have made friends and future travel companions for life❣️ Oh and the Hotel was smack in the middle of Paris, so beautiful, cook to order breakfast, place for you to relax, talk, unwimd, sip wine after a long productive day,  and yes, no bedbugs LOL. transpo was not an issue at all. I want to talk about the activities but I want you to be suprised! Would I recommend this Staycation? Absolutely 💯! 

Staying at the Podere Casalciccio for Sarah's Staycation Tuscany tour was like staying on a dreamy island in the midst of magical experiences and a wonderland of views, eating and learning.  We were a couple that joined with 4 other travelers, who were all wonderful people, at this guest house operated by Roberto and Patti. Roberto was the guide/driver and all-around expert in everything Tuscan. Patti is his wife, professor at a nearby Siena university and hostess extraordinaire.  Our accommodations were more than anticipated: a cozy but large en suite with a door to the outside and views and soft sounds of the surrounding countryside. Some mornings, with the cloud/mist settled into the valleys, it seemed we were on an island in a misty ocean. So incredibly beautiful with sunsets, sunrises, night skies...difficult to put it all into words.  Traveling on daily trips throughout the area provided unexpected, new experiences. Monasteries, olive and winery visit/meal at Roberto's family-owned business, art and architecture, small villages we would never have even known about, meals that were authentic and bountiful, and surprises like an Etruscan museum visit where Roberto has been a participating member for many years. We appreciated the pickup at the Rome airport and the drop-off at the train station in Rome. The only improvement would be to have more time at the Podere Casalciccio. For example, a small dinner of buffet plates similar to the very tasty one we had on the first night we arrived. That was just perfect1 A few more evenings just like that would have been cozy and nice after busy days of touring.

StayCation Tuscany November 2023

I had a great time. Group size (6) was optimal.  There was a good mix between popular tourist sites, such as Florence and Siena, and much less frequently touristed areas. Even though I had been in Europe many times before and had visited several sites before, I always  learned something new and interesting.  Roberto has an exhaustive source of information  and  an engaging way to deliver it to his clients. Roberto's son,  Mike, gave us a great cooking class and an equally entertaining class on mixing Italian aperitivi. Accommodations at Roberto and Patti's house were great, with large rooms and bathrooms and a comfortable kitchen and lounge area. Food was always great, whether at one of several restaurants we visited, at Roberto's winery or at his home. I highly recommend this tour. You won't be disappointed

Excellent trip with great guide.  We thoroughly enjoyed our experience. 

Overall we had a great trip!  Wonderful countries with beautiful people, food and unique experiences. Tomaz did a great job as our guide and Brancko was a wonderful driver.  The cities we visited and experiences were wonderful and we did things that we would not have been able to plan on our own which made it great!  Tomaz did a great job along the way and all of the local guides were wonderful!
As this was our first trip there were some details that would have been nice to provide before the trip.  Numerous dinners were not planned and leaving us to find restaurants which at times was a challenge as many were closing as the tourist season was coming to an end.  This also added expense to our trip that we did not anticipate.  One example is that 3 nights on Brac Island was too much given that most restaurants were closed and no dinners were pre-planned for our stay.  Thankfully Tomaz found a restaurant that was still open our first night.  The food that was preplanned was good overall but a bit more variety would be nice - we had three meals that were basically the same - chicken and veal with vegetables.  The hotel accomodations were overall good but we had issues with access to several of them due to construction .  The street in front of Hotel Lapad was not accessible by bus and we had to take our luggage down a series of steps and then across mud and dirt to get to the hotel - This was not the way we wanted to start the trip.  In Trogir, Villa Sv Petar had their sidewalks totally jackhammered and lots of mud and dirt to navigate.  The Villa staff were very accommodating to help us get our luggage and were very apologetic.  Lastly on our final night the Kairos Winery was at the top of a mountain and was only accessible via a rough dirt road.  The bus driver was not able to take us all the way to the winery and as such many of our group had to walk up the dirt road!!  The winery manager came down and offered rides in his small car which was quite an experience!!  At least the view and experience at the winery was a highlight!!  
The comments are meant to improve future travel for your clients.  We had a wonderful trip!!!

Ireland October

Stephen is the best tour guide for Ireland.  His knowledge of Irish history and current events is stellar.  Stephen's stories along with his delivery helped to make the longer drives more enjoyable.  I appreciated his recommendations for meals.

Our tour of Ireland with Stephen McPhilemy far exceeded my expectations.  Our small tour group of ten began our travels in Dublin, drove up the western coast and finished in Belfast. Stephen kept us informed and entertained with his knowledge of Ireland's history and gift of storytelling.  The travel days were well planned to show us the sights without long stretches in the van.  Our bus driver, Alan Malone, was excellent both behind the wheel and with his camera.  Two of the highlights were an afternoon of falcrony at Milltown House in Dingle and music and dancing at a pub with the locals in Killarney.  I appreciate the thought and care that went into planning this tour.  I feel like I experienced the best that Ireland has to offer.

Florence staycation was another wonderful experience with Sarah. The  hotel was perfect. Who doesn't want to sleep in a medieval pallazzo! Yes. We participated in a few of the more obvious activities, but Sarah makes it happen as if we are at the front of the line. Add to that the things I would never expect to do, like a painting class, for example, and my time in Florence and surrounding areas has become a unique experience. And as always, amazing food and wine and treats. A well planned balance of group meals and activities with personal free time. 
To have Sarah as our guide is extra special. She has a wealth of knowledge to share, which brings so much meaning to what we see. (And I love stories!)
Thank you Sarah for making my adventure even more than I imagined.

StayCation Florence October 2023

My time in Tuscany with Roberto and family was the best! Driving through the beautiful countryside, medieval villages, and so much amazing food were obvious pleasures. But add to that the serene time at Casalciccia and meals with Roberto and his wonderful family made for a truly unique experience for me.
Roberto added so many personal touches to the days in Tuscany, which set this tour apart from any other. Thank you Roberto!

StayCation Tuscany October 2023

Sarah is a wonderful, flexible, experienced guide - our previous experience with her in Sicily is part of what drew us to this trip.  Her ability to talk about nearly anything we saw in a way that is engaging and informative, and her way of seamlessly integrating information about art and architecture with history and what we're seeing in the present moment helped to make this a great week.  She made Florence manageable (no small feat given the crowds, even in October), and by the time we left we felt we'd had a solid introduction to this amazing city.  There was a good balance of structured activities and free time, which allowed for exploration (and naps!).

I had a great time. I loved all of the tours/experiences. You took me to places that I never would have found on my own. The free half day at the Agriturismo was wonderful. Great food, wine and company!

A wonderful trip in so many ways: culture, gastronomy, and viticulture. Endre was a fantastic group leader. Not enough accolades can be said of Endre.


Hungary & Northern Croatia 2023

We would definitely recommend this tour to anyone who would like to see more than the typical tourist spots. Our guide, Endre, was so knowledgeable and interesting to travel with. He took us to such beautiful places and was so responsive to our interests. We hope to come back and do more tours with him and with Taste Hungary. Fantastic food, wine and such beautiful surroundings. This was the trip of a lifetime.

Amazing trip! It was so well planned with every single day filled with beautiful surroundings, wonderful food and such good wine. We never would have been able to visit these places on our own. Andrew did an outstanding job setting all this up and guiding us through each day. Kristjan was such a competent driver and really took care of us all. We definitely would love to travel with this tour group again.

Harvest Tour 2023

This was a wonderful trip. Our guide, Roberto and his family were the best. Food and accommodations were great. 
I did not give the trip 5 stars for two reasons: the trip was mishandled administratively and I thought there was too much driving involved. 

We did have a great time. The group was small and allowed time to learn about our fellow traveler. We experienced so many wonderful winery and special place to eat. This was as described. Andrew was a great guide. The ultimate is we have already recommended your trips to friends and relatives.

The new Lisbon Staycation with Susanna as our guide was a really great small group experience.  As a guide, Susannah was delightful.   She was upbeat, organized, knowledgeable, attentive, patient, and funny--very enjoyable to be around.  She met us with a thoughtful touch--a welcome bag that included our itinerary, local map, 2 postcards (with postage added!), a pre-loaded metro card, cork bookmarks,  plus the hot sauce and sardines local to the area.   

Our days were a great balance of group activity or excursion plus enough individual time to let us explore on our own, which I really liked.  She equipped us well with maps, and info on how to get around and always helped with suggestions for restaurants, etc.   Since this tour was new, it was a first time utilizing some of the local guides and they were all really terrific--knowledgeable, passionate and patient.   All the new experiences such as the sunset boat ride on the Tagus river, the cooking class in Evora, and the Fado Music show were all researched and done well.   She also made sure we got the real Pastel de Belem experience in Lisbon--which was totally worth it!

This was our first time doing a Staycation, and it was nice to have time to become more familiar with one area while still doing day trips to be able to see more.  There really is a lot to see and do in Lisbon, but it would be great to add a beach day into the mix, weather permitting, since we were so close.  We personally added 2 days in Porto after the Staycation ended and wished we had more time there as well.  

We would definitely choose to travel with Susanna as a guide again.  We laughed so much-and I will never forget standing outside our hotel all of us laughing so hard we were crying about a crazy taxi driver experience.   It's those little things that make a trip so memorable.




StayCation Lisbon September 2023

Paolo was the best!  Stellar in every way!  I learned so much about art from him.  Kind, generous, patient, and knowledgeable!  I had a wonderful time visiting many Roman sites and Gandolfo.  The week flew by.  Thank you, Paolo!

Rome StayCation autumn 2023

This was a great trip, especially for my first solo adventure.  A nice small group of travelers.  The tour guide, Paola,was extremely knowledgeable, worked hard to make sure we all enjoyed the different venues.  I would definitely travel with this company again. 

 I will repeat what I posted on Facebook:
I just returned from a beautiful trip in the piedmont area of Northwest Italy. Although it was booked through a tour company, it was not a tour. It was billed as a staycation, but i that is not even accurate. It was truly more like a visit with family. It reminded me so much of when I went to Norway the first time to visit family who picked me up from the airport and spent two weeks taking me all over the country to their favorite places to meet their favorite people and to see their favorite sites and locations. Places they go in their daily life. That is what this trip was like. I don’t even want to refer to Lisa Anderson as our tour guide because she became our friend. Truly, it was like traveling with a long lost friend in a bunch of family members . Truly a trip to remember!

StayCation Piemonte September 2023

Lisbon was full of wonderful surprises thanks to our guide Susanna who took great care to show us the best spots and avoid the long line ups!  She watched our energy levels and adapted as was needed 
The hotel was so close to the water and the restaurants and shops.  Also clean and quiet.  I can recommend this trip wholeheartedly !

Lisbon was an unexpected pleasure.  So much to see and if you combine with day trips out of the city, it could easily fill two weeks of delightful discoveries.  Susanna was an excellent guide, knowledgeable, funny and definitely made the tour very special.

We had a wonderful time on our Naples Staycation. There was so much to see and do. The trip had a great pace and plenty (but not too much) time to go out on our own to explore. There is so much history and historical sites in the Naples area, it is overwhelming.
Our tour guide Lisa, was great. She helped my husband and I navigate and plan for the more difficult  physical parts of the trip. She handled our mess up on the rooms as an ultimate professional and had us neatly tucked into another hotel, before anyone could complain!!
The local tour guides were very informational and had great suggestions for eating on our free evenings.
Overall, I would say this was a great tour and we recommend it if you're interested in learning more about southern Italy.

StayCation Naples September 2023

We loved our time in Naples, the activities chosen, the people we travelled with, and our guide Lisa.  Wonderful experience.  Thank you so much!  And Pompeii!!  Beyond amazing.  Complete with an earthquake, just to keep it real.

I had a great time.   The folks on the trip were wonderful travel partners.   The food was excellent and the hotels and accomadations were well thought out.   The only suggestion I would make is to end the trip in Palermo versus Cefalu.   It would have been easier and more convenient access to the airport.

Sicily Pleasures September 2023

We thoroughly enjoyed the Sicily Highlights tour.  We enjoyed the sites.  We loved everything so it is hard to single one thing out.  The history, different styles of architecture, mosaics, culture, food, wine - all were amazing.  We loved Andrew and Guisi - they were informative and helpful in every way.  We would definitely recommend this tour to others.

I had a great experience and the guides were wonderful and supported me in my first trip in 12 years....I feel like I won the lottery and found some great new friends....Thank you for a wonderful time and great memories. I hope to travel with you again in the future!

I rate the trip a 4+.  We had a very good time, overall.  Obviously, the whole purpose of the trip was the Palio.  Ms. Anna was terrific and put everything into perspective.

Food/meals were excellent.  (Thanks for not chiseling us on the drinks with the meals.)
Accommodations were very good.
Cooking school was terrific and a fun activity.  I still prefer to buy my pasta.
The carnival museum / workshop tour was fabulous.

The trip to Carrara was very interesting.  Unfortunately, it was marred by the jerks who drove the 4x4s. It's as if the drivers had a competition among themselves to see how many passengers they could make dizzy or nauseous.  I felt like a gallon of paint in a shaker machine.

Since we are not pool or beach people, it would have been nice to have other options.

I will recommend this trip to others if Sarah makes it a permanent tour.

Palio and Tuscany Deluxe

Anna is a prize!  She knows and shares so much about the local events, culture, and art.  She and Sarah led us to fantastic viewing sites for the practices, the race itself, and other related events.  The group were all good travelers and fine companions, and it was delightfully small.  We have heard about (and seen videos of) the Palio for decades and it was a bucket list experience for us to be there.  Even the weather stayed cool for us.  Food and hotels were excellent.

Thank you Sarah and Anna for making this trip possible and for teaching us so much about the local culture.  Sarah, please keep finding special and unusual trips and events for us to enjoy!

We had a great 8 day trip to IIreland trip with Sarah Murdoch and Stephen McPhilemy. We went from Dublin to Killarney  to Dingle to Galway to Londonderry and finally to Belfast. My favorite part of the trip was our stay in Dingle. While there, we got to get to know the small town, hear some great music, see Ireland’s best Irish dancer, taste some good whiskey and participate in a falconry demonstration. My least favorite day was the ride to Londonderry. We visited Cong and then got to look at a castle that is now a swanky hotel. The other days were great. Visiting the Giant’s Causeway and the Cliffs of Mohr as well as the horse ride in Killarney we’re special.

Ireland

All I can say about this trip is “Wow!”  It was fantastic. Everything!  I don’t know where to start so I would just advise anyone to GO. 

We had a fabulous time. The itinerary was well matched to us. Our guide was attentive, competent and knowledgeable. We saw and did Slovenia in a way that we otherwise would. It have. Our experiences were unique. We will always remember this trip in very high regard. Thank you Andrew and Miha for your excellent expertise and organizing.

This was such an amazing trip. Andrew did a great job at arranging so many adventures for us that we would not have been able to arrange for ourselves. Great food and wine and beautiful countries were visited. Would highly recommend a tour with Andrew and this company.

Veneto-Slovenia May 2023

What an adventure!!! This was our first guided tour and there are so many wonderfully descriptive words it is hard to truly articulate such a wonderful experience, however I will try. Our guide Andrew and our driver Christian were knowledgeable, fun and fast on their feet. The adventures were well planned, yet I know they had to improvise a bit due to the bike race tour and yet each stop and tour was seamless in execution. The food, wine and accommodations were also excpeptional  our hosts all very kind. Our group of 12 got along in every way which really added flavor and richness to every tour and meal. In short, we will travel with Wetravel again and would highly reccomend them. Oh!! in closing, we also felt that we received far more in value and experience than the price for the tour.

Andrew was a fantastic.  Excellent off the beaten path excursions.  If you want great food, wine, cheese, and sights, this is the trip for you.

We had a lot of fun with a very friendly group of travelers.  We were well fed, stayed in comfortable places, and visited a lot of places off the beaten track.  Thank you.

I really enjoyed this tour. I went to places I never imagined I would actually go to and appreciated the experience. The small group made this so much easier and our guide Miha made us feel comfortable and safe. The beauty and history of these countries blew me away!

Lisa Anderson is the perfect guide.  She combines not only interesting, factual, and well crafted tours but also shares her love and experiences in living in the beautiful country of Italy for over 20 years.  I will definitely tour with her again.  

I had a great time on the Romanian trip. Our guide George was knowledgable, upbeat and accommodating. The trip was a wonderful introduction to Romania.

Romania April 2023

Romania is a gorgeous country with rich traditions. Thanks to George our guide we were able to learn more about Romanian history. Experience Eastern Orthodox Easter celebrations. Visit centuries old churches, Saxon villages, and drive through the Carpathian Mountains. We spent several nights in a rustic old wooden house and enjoyed traditional Romanian meals in private homes and restaurants popular with the locals. This was a trip of a lifetime. Our group was small which was a great plus. Bring your hiking shoes. 

The trip was fabulous.  I loved that we got to see so many different parts of Sicily, the accommodations were awesome, and of course, the food was amazing.  I might have like a little more down time, and maybe another day with a later start (10am instead of 9am).  Really appreciated Sarah’s extensive knowledge of Sicilian history - it really added to the experience.  And the smaller group (just 10) made it easier to bond as a group.  So fun!
