Cuyabeno River Lodge Has sponsored tourism and scientific research in the Ecuadorian Amazon Basin since the creation of the lodge and the establishment of the reserve in 1979. We are the direct operators of Cuyabeno River Lodge and protect the most fragile zone of the Cuyabeno National Reserve. Over 500 species of birds, 450 species of fish, 12,000 plant species, and hundreds of mammals, reptiles, and amphibians can be found in this diverse ecosystem. Our mission is to promote ecotourism in an environmentally and culturally safe manner in order to present Cuyabeno’s beauty to its visitors. We offer standard four or five-day tours to our native-style cabins as well as longer adventure tours through the mysterious waters of Cuyabeno and into Peru. Join us as we venture into this unique and fascinating habitat!

After traveling directly by bus to the Cuyabeno Bridge, we will travel by motorized canoe to our lodge for breakfast and rest. After lunch, we will take a short acclimatization hike along the Ceibos trail. Upon our return, we will set up our tents and other logistics for our trip the following day. Dinner and overnight stay at Cuyabeno River Lodge.
After a quick breakfast, we will board the canoes that we will be using for the next four days to travel through the Reserve.
We will begin to descend the Cuyabeno River until we reach Paso del Tigre, where we will take a short hike of approximately two hours, during which we may be lucky enough to see peccaries. Dinner and camping.
(Optional: Requests for morning birdwatching walks are welcome). After breakfast, we will board our canoe and enjoy the beautiful flora and fauna. We will continue our journey until we reach Laguna Grande, which is the natural habitat of several species of animals, such as pink and gray dolphins, river turtles, and the elusive anaconda.
We will find a suitable place for lunch and rest for a while. We will continue our journey through the Cuyabeno until we reach the Siona community in Puerto Bolívar, where we will be able to see their customs and experience their way of making food, assisting in the making of cassava bread or casabe.
Then we will go downstream where we will camp for the night.
We will travel along the river until we reach Montufar, where we will take a short walk through this almost untouched part of Cuyabeno and go bird watching on the river.
We will camp in Montufar for the night.
Breakfast, then we will travel along the Cuyabeno River until we reach Aguas Negras, a beautiful river with black waters that is home to a large number of exotic and unique birds that cannot be seen anywhere else in the world.
We will enjoy some fantastic walks through the jungle and learn about this unique ecosystem with the help of our guide.
We will spend the night in Aguas Negras.
On the last day, we will have an early breakfast before heading back to the lodge. We will travel by motorized canoe, keeping an eye out for additional wildlife along the way. We will leave early enough to ensure our arrival at the Cuyabeno Bridge at 11:00 a.m.
