Itinerary

Welcome to Cusco!
Day 1

Day 1: Cusco – Sacred Valley

The group will be arriving to the ancient Inca city of Cusco this morning, giving us the chance to meet at the delightful Pachapapa Restaurant at 12:00 hrs, where we’ll introduce ourselves and enjoy a welcome lunch together. After lunch, we’ll enjoy a gentle post-prandial walk around Cusco, visiting its main attractions. You’ll be struck by the unlikely yet intriguing combination of ancientness and modernity in this urban wonderland, as you traverse its streets and feast your senses on its eclectic sights and sounds. A city replete with history on every corner, the ancient Inca capital is among the most visited urban areas in South America. Fashionably dressed modern Cusqueñans stride down the streets, intermingling with campesinos, or country folk, often dressed in traditional garb and leading alpacas or donkeys, while carrying great bundles on their backs. During this half-day tour, we’ll visit the most important sites of this folkloric Andean city. You’ll traverse cobblestone streets lined with original Inca walls on the way to the ancient Inca Temple of the Sun (Qoricancha) found inside the Church of Santo Domingo. Once completely covered in gold, and housing hundreds of golden artifacts, the sight of Qoricancha so excited the lust of the conquistadors that they had thousands of irreplaceable artworks and sculptures melted down so that they could send the gold to the king and queen of Spain. Visit the Plaza de Armas, once the Inca’s main city center, and learn about its dramatic and sometimes violent history. Two churches stand on the Plaza, the Cusco Cathedral, the mother church of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Cusco, dating from 1654; and the even more ancient Church of the Triumph, which was built on top of the Suntur Wasi, an Inca religious temple. Note the significant works of art depicting Mary and the infant Jesus, saints, and apostles from the Cusco School of Painting, There is a “Last Supper” painting that depicts the main course in the center of the table as a guinea pig or cuy; it was painted by Quechua artist Marcos Zapata in the 18th century. The Plaza de Armas is a gathering place for locals, especially on weekends, and boasts lovely flower gardens, benches for the repose of locals and tourists, and central statuary. The tour will proceed at a gentle pace to give you time to acclimatize to the high- altitude and to present questions to your guide. In the afternoon, we’ll transfer to the picturesque town in the Sacred Vallaey, where we’ll spend the night at a local boutique hotel. Dinner on your own.

This was one of the best trips i’ve ever taken! Our two guides were fantastic, the views were stunning, and the logistical aspects of the trip were well planned and seamless. To have tackled something as extraordinary as TdMB, I felt super accomplished at the end and the best part was doing it with a group of 13 awesome people. I think runcation really attracts a solid group of people who are kind, easy to travel with and also incredibly fit! I’d highly recommend this trip!

We had an awesome time on the TMB. A great group of people and Suze and David were the perfect guides. They really helped us through and were exceptionally caring. We probably underestimated the daily elevation gain, there are some challenging climbs but the team ensured everyone’s success! We are really proud of our achievement and are very grateful to Runcation for making one of our bucket list adventures come true. Now on to planning the next one!

Everything about this trip was planned perfectly! Runcation coordinated and booked everything, which made me feel at ease being a solo traveler. They were communicative throughout the whole process and helped make any adjustments I needed. Thanks for the trip of a lifetime!!

This was my second trip with Runcation and it was just as enjoyable! The trip met all expectations with great views, challenging segments, and wonderful people. The guides did an excellent job of staying with the group and providing details on what the upcoming day would look like and even led some recovery sessions post run. The rest of the people on the trip were an absolute delight and really enhanced the experience as I got to know and learn from them as well. I would recommend this to trip anyone who is interested in a trip with running as its focus. It was just the right amount of challenging where we worked up a sweat but still had energy to enjoy the rest of the day after the run. I would sign up again in a heart beat.

We, my wife and I, just finished the Tour du Mont Blanc Trail Running Vacation: Chamonix Runcation 2025. We were very excited for this trip for months and it did not disappoint. Our guides were Susie and David. Their knowledge of the trail, confidence in our group of 11, and overall demeanor made the experience welcoming and ideal for all. The helpful communication leading up to the trip, intentionality with the itinerary, and the course itself met all expectations. If you’re looking for a doable/challenging mountain experience with spectacular views then this is for you.
