Runner's Recovery & Injury Prevention
March 29, 2026 at Athletic Strength Training, 42 Main St Unit D, Hopkinton, MA 01748 From 9am - 5pm. You will earn 8 CE credits.
Course Description: Elevate your practice and become the go-to specialist for runners! This intensive 8-hour clinical course provides massage therapists with the anatomical knowledge, pathological understanding, and precise hands-on skills required to effectively treat common running-related dysfunctions and implement proactive injury prevention strategies.
We will move beyond generalized leg work to explore the specific biomechanical demands of running. You'll learn to identify key patterns related to conditions like Plantar Fasciitis, IT Band Syndrome, and Runner's Knee, integrating advanced techniques—including precise myofascial / neuromuscular approaches and joint mobilization, and effective deep tissue applications—to help your clients recover faster, run further, and achieve their athletic goals safely.
Learning Objectives:
Upon completion of this course, the participant will be able to:
Analyze and articulate the key musculoskeletal structures (muscles, joints, and fascia) that drive the running gait cycle and are most susceptible to overuse.
Identify and differentiate the common pathological patterns of at least five frequent running injuries (e.g., Patella Femoral Syndrome, Plantar Fasciitis, Achilles Tendinopathy, IT Band Syndrome and Shin Splints).
Apply and demonstrate effective, targeted massage and manual therapy techniques to address hypertonicity and restricted mobility in the muscles and fascia related to the five most common running injuries.
Design treatment plan based on a case study aimed at both acute recovery and long-term injury prevention for a recreational or competitive runner.
Educate clients on self-care and mobility protocols that complement massage therapy for sustained injury recovery.
