Malta & Gozo have a long history of both a Mother Mary and the ancient Mother Goddess devotion. While journeying through their ancient lands, we'll weave together both traditions into our present day lives.
After a short flight from Rome to Malta, we'll arrive in the ancient land of Malta and our hotel for the next 6 nights in the Silent City of Mdina.
Malta is a small island and most sites are only 30 min. from our centrally located hotel in the Silent City of Mdina. Each day, I share with you the main site we'll be visiting, but along with these sites are craft markets, cafes with traditional Maltese foods, baroque art and a Maltese farm where a variety of herbs are grown.
Malta's oldest and most intriguing ancient site. We'll have our own private time here to explore, meditate and sing in this healing sound chamber.
Today, we'll explore the majestic cliffs of Dingli and the Magdalene Chapel perched high above the sea.
Today is a day to yourself, however, I've arrange to have a bus for part of the day to take us to the Shrine of Our lady in Mellieha. The shrine was built over top of an old grotto believed to have hidden the holy family when they fled from Egypt. It is known for miraculous healing throughout the ages.
We'll spend our day wandering the city of Valetta, Malta's capital and visiting her many sites. The National Museum of Archeology houses many artifacts found during temple excavations, one of which includes the infamous Sleeping Lady. We'll also visit the underground monastery hidden beneath the city's streets.
In 60AD, St. Paul landed upon the shores of Malta, shipwrecked. He and the crew described Malta as "paradise". St. Paul brought with him the teachings of Jesus and Mary Magdalene - the original teachings that came from the Essenes.
His catacomb, not too far from our hotel in the Silent City, is considered a holy place where people visit for healing of all sorts of ailments.
We'll transfer from the mainland of Malta by ferry to the island of Gozo. You'll have time to get settled into your room and wander the village.
We'll have a laid back time on Gozo that includes the sites listed below as a feature each day. But time will allow for visits to the beach, exploring the Ggantija Temple, massages at a nearby spa and a gathering with two local Gozo herbalists who will share with us the herbal remedies of the Mediterranean witches.
Gozo is known for the people's devotion to Mary and its history of being a pilgrimage site. There are many chapels dotted across the landscape known for their miraculous healings.
In walking distance from our hotel, the Ggantija Temple is considered the second Hypogeum. We'll have plenty of time exploring this ancient temple that is more than 5000 years old.
We'll explore, by boat, the magical rock formations and sea caves that are part of the beautiful shores of Gozo.
The capital of Gozo, Victoria is a lively, charming historic city where the streets are lined with shops, cafes, and open markets. A perfect place to experience the Maltese culture on Gozo.
We'll say our farewell to Gozo as we return to mainland Malta by ferry and take our flight either back to Rome for our final journey home, or to continue your travels elsewhere.
