About this trip

join Kelly Aguilera + Keri Huddleston from Sacred Roots for a week long experience in an idyllic setting full of opportunity to connect within, with others, and nature. Beautiful environs, beaches, adventurous experiences, daily yoga and meditation, and good company for a true self care experience.

All participants will have the opportunity to learn the basics of self myofascial release and receive the tools necessary to continue their relaxing practice when they return home.

The Space

Equipped with a sparkling pool, WiFi, and A/C, you’ll be able to enjoy comfortable 4-star hotel accommodations without losing the rustic touch that makes Gigante unique. Yoga will be held between a tropical open space underneath our newly built grand palapa and a cliffside ocean view shala.

Breaks in the day are encouraged, so feel free to take a moment to relax in one of our day beds or hammock, and appreciate the cloudy blue skies, palm trees, and gift yourself the feeling of serenity.

Food

We have a full-service restaurant + bar to prepare meals and beverages during this retreat. Enjoy fresh, locally-sourced ingredients with delicious options for all dietary needs and preferences.  Experience delicious tropical fruits, fresh caught fish, local produce, and a thoughtfully crafted menu to keep you satisfied.

The Community of El Gigante

A colorful fishing village off the beaten path, El Gigante is located just over an hour north of San Juan Del Sur on Nicaragua's beautiful Pacific Coast. The town is aptly named “big foot” when translated from Spanish to describe the gentle green foothills that meet the ocean with such ease. A town filled with untouched beaches, roaming farm animals, and dirt pathways; you’ll quickly remember the importance of slowing down and to embrace living simply.

The lifestyle and culture here very much embodies the phrase “Take it Easy”. Arriving here feels like taking one long exhale and a chance to just be.

About Kelly

I've been stepping in front of classrooms since 2005. Because of this experience I feel uniquely suited to help students find their voice and comfort as a teacher. I began a career as a high school history teacher but in 2012 I found my passion stepping in front of students in a yoga studio. I feel at home guiding students in a dance of breath and movement, tuning in to what is happening in the present moment and hoping that at the end of it all they've learned a little bit about the Self and the nature of their bodies.

I have had over 1,000 hours of training in yoga asana, philosophy and anatomy. I consider Paul Grilley - a pioneer in yoga anatomy and chakra meditation - my dearest teacher. I have also completed more than 200 hours of education with Yogarupa Rod Stryker am Certified ParaYoga Nidra teacher. Lastly, I  have completed 300 hours in yoga philosophy, history and training from leading academics in the modern yoga world. I feel I have a solid foundation in both the yang and the yin forms of yoga.

I teach 4 weekly classes at The Studio in Reno in addition to many workshops. I'm an E RYT-500, and also certified to lead continuing education classes through the Yoga Alliance.

About Keri

I began a regular  practice of yoga after sustaining a sports related back injury in 2001. Yoga has helped me to keep a healthy body so I can continue my habit of many outdoor activities, including snowboarding and backpacking, as well as cultivate a meditation and mindfulness practice.

I started teaching in 2005 and have an energetic style but I aim for even challenging poses to be accessible for everyone. I am a co-teacher for the Sacred Roots Yoga Teacher Training Program established in 2017. I have led numerous workshops to assist students and teachers in deepening their yoga practice including many for inversions and arm balancing, meditation, and Vinyasa yoga.

I also have a long career as Speech Language Pathologist, national consultant, and presenter. In my free time I love to do anything outside, travel, and spend time with my dog Daisy.

What an unbelievable experience! I fell in love with the beauty of the land and the community. Room to Roam does an excellent job coordinating every detail, so you don't have to worry about anything. And I can't say enough about the staff. The staff are like a close family, genuinely friendly and so helpful! This retreat experience was like none other. There were plenty of activities to choose from, making it a unique "choose your own adventure" experience. I'll definitely be back in the future.

Can’t say enough good things about Room to Roam and the whole staff in Nicaragua. The food is next level, the staff is so warm and friendly, I was instantly at home. They guided me through the travel process and I felt completely safe as I traveled somewhere new. The surfing was incredible and there is just some kind of magic down there! I’ll be back!

Room to Roam was an amazing experience all around! Accommodations were clean and comfortable with operational A/C, fans, wi-fi, and running hot water! The common spaces were awesome, and the pool was always ready. All the staff on site were welcoming and delightful, and took care of guests' every request. The food was absolutely incredible! Everything on the menu was on point and they handled special requests with ease. In our small group we had a gluten-free carnivore, a gluten-free vegetarian, and a gluten-loving vegetarian. We each had enough options to never have to eat the same meal twice (though some found favorites and stuck to them). I endeavored to try as much as possible, and there wasn't a single dish that didn't completely deliver beyond expectation. The bartenders, spinning the fun music and videos, also spun excellent thirst-quenching drinks from smoothies to cocktails, delivered with a smile. Ashley's yoga and Kate's pilates sessions were just right, and the hour-long massage left me blissful and pain-free. The owners, Chance and Kate, took on all the worries to make sure our experience went smooth - including adjusting rooming arrangements, transportation, border crossings, and covid-testing. And their dogs, Iris and Tarzan, were delightful and wonderful companions for walks and naps. But the one staff member deserving the biggest SHOUTOUT was our Surf Guide, Ramone. Not only did he gently coax us out in all kinds of conditions, but he was attentive to us in the water and always made sure we were in the optimal spot for catching waves. He helped me tremendously with timing and technique, calling me into waves, and instilling my confidence in bigger waves, and in less than optimal conditions. I am grateful for the breakthroughs that came from surfing with both Ramone and our host, Lorenzo (whom I credit for getting to my feet on the shortest board yet!). Our group was quite small (5 guests at the start and then just 3 for the rest of the week), so it was like having the "resort" to ourselves with a high staff to guest ratio. That said, I still think a larger group would not feel any less personally cared for. You really feel like you are visiting friends: fresh home-cooked meals, no need for locked doors, wi-fi connectivity, laundry service, and pet dogs. It's a home away from home, plus plenty of ROOM TO ROAM.

This trip was such a blast! Room to Roam set us up in Hotel Onda, which had such a cool, upscale hostel/boutique hotel vibe! The staff were super friendly and our excursions were amazing. I especially love the waterfall excursion and learning to surf with Javi my surf instructor! Kate and Olivia were so hospitable and always checking on us to make sure things were going well or if we needed anything. I'd definitely do this again!

I can’t say enough about my wonderful experience with Kate, Ashley, Lorenzo and the whole staff at Room to Roam! This trip was truly magical. I was a little nervous to travel for the first time since COVID. Kate took such great care ushering me in to Nicaragua. I was very stressed at home prior to leaving and Kate kept taking things off my plate as I prepared to leave. Upon arrival we were greeted so warmly by the staff. I was instantly relaxed. Marco’s truly does make the BEST passion fruit margarita on the planet! My intention was surf and boy did I fall back in love with surfing, but I am really walking away with so much more- a complete reboot for my body, mind and soul! I’ll be back again soon! PS the food is out of the this world! Every single meal…. Mouth watering!
