Day 1: Cusco – Sacred Valley – Maras Moray – Machu Picchu Pueblo

Pick your hotel at any location in Cusco city at 8 am and drive for 30 minutes with your exclusive transportation and tour guide to Awanacancha Alpaca center, Where you will see Llamas, Alpacas, Vicuñas, and guanacos. Your Tour guide will explain to you the main difference between these famous South American Camelids, visit the textile center to learn the weaving process, how the locals get the natural colors, and you can shop as well.

It’s then another 30 minutes to Lookout Point of the Sacred Valley to take a spectacular view of the Andes, Urubamba River, and the Sacred Valley’s farming lands on the Incas. You will visit the Pisaq Archaeological site, located on top of the Mountains with impressive stone walls, Agricultural terraces, irrigation systems, and the Inca Empire’s largest Cemetary. After exploring with amazing views, you will drive to visit the Local handcraft Pisaq Market, where artisans offer their ceramics, textiles, jewelry, Andean instruments, alpaca products, and souvenirs. Then go for 1 hour to Urubamba for Lunch in a Local Restaurant with various local Peruvian dishes, using fresh products from the area.

After enjoying a delicious lunch, You’ll drive to the highlands and out of the Sacred Valley to visit Moray, the mysterious circular shape farming terraces used probably for agricultural experimentation. Afterward, move on to picturesque Maras town, famous because they are salt producers since Inca Times. Explore the more than 3000 salt ponds, learn the harvesting process, and buy souvenirs before heading back to Ollantaytambo.

Then you will visit Ollantaytambo, the Last Living Inca citadel, named this way because the current city is built above the ancient Inca buildings. The locals used the same foundations, the same doorways from the Inca Buildings. They just made the second floor; even the water channels have run with water since Inca Times. Ollantaytambo also has an impressive archeological site with temples, terraces, storehouses, and we can find the heaviest Inca monolithic transported from another mountain located 5 km away. After exploring the city, you will take the Expedition train to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo) and spend the night in a hotel.

The will be a guided tour for about 3 hours, visiting the most remarkable terraces, storehouses, temples, palaces, and giving some free time to explore by yourself or take the extra hikes to Huayna Picchu or Machu Picchu Mountain (Montaña). These additional hikes are optional and not included in the tour.

Great trip thank you. We saw the numerous interesting Inca sites and an alpaca farm, with a very nice buffet lunch. The day was packed with content. Particular thanks to our guide Katya, whose enthusiasm and knowledge seemed to be boundless. She is proud of her beautiful country and heritage, and rightly so. Thanks again for providing this experience.

The company did an outstanding job getting our group through 4 days of hiking. The breakfast, lunch, and dinners they served were unexpectedly very good and plentiful. Sleeping inside the tents was made comfortable with foam and air mattresses along with sleeping bags and pillows. Unfortunately the government is in charge of the bathroom facilities which were pretty bad, they only had flour toilets and in some cases they were quite dirty, not the fault of the company. A lot of the companies that use the Inka trail don't properly pasteurized the drinking water many hikers get diarrhea so bring anti-diarrhea medicine and consider bringing something that can filter the bacteria our of the drinking water they provide. I think I was the only one in my group who got diarrhea, fortunately I brought medicine with me and I started using my filter once it started. Fortunately it only lasted two days and it wasn't bad. The floors of one bathroom facility was covered in diarrhea by another company's group by the time we got there, that was pretty bad. There was only one cold shower facility available at the end of the third day hiking, however, all the bathrooms at the camping sites have large sinks which you can use to at least wash your hair and face. I packed baby wipes, which worked well at cleaning the rest of me and that I used to when I went #2. We saw so many archeological sites along the 4 days hiking, it was amazing. I would definitely do this hike again but would use filter/straw that removes bacteria from the drinking water they provide. Also it's very important to be in Cusco (or high altitude town) at least 3 days before the hike to get acclimated to the altitude. Taking one aspirin (325 mg) and one ginkgo biloba (120 mg) per day starting one week before you arrive at high altitudes towns like Cusco (11,000 ft above sea level) and throughout your stay will help prevent altitude sickness (headaches, nausea, etc). Bring rain gear and use the plastic poncho they provide. My rain gear didn't work that well but the poncho did.

We had wonderful four days on the Inca Trail. Wilian as tour guide made the experience unforgettable and the food was delicious. A huge thank you to all the helpers in the background (especially the porters) who do everything to make this trip so amazing. I will never forget the great time we had in our group.
