Travel Tips for Sardinia in September

Travel Tips for Sardinia in September

1. Weather and Packing

  • September is one of the best months to visit Sardinia. The weather is warm but not overly hot, with daytime temperatures averaging 75–85°F (24–29°C) and cooler evenings around 60–70°F (15–21°C).

  • Bring light, breathable clothing, a light jacket for evenings, and non-slip shoes if you're sailing.

  • Don’t forget reef-safe sunscreen, a sun hat, and swimwear—this is prime beach and boat season.

2. Money and Currency Tips

  • Sardinia uses the Euro (€). Do not use USD—most places won’t accept it, and if they do, you’ll get a poor exchange rate.

  • Withdraw euros from an ATM once you arrive, ideally from a bank-affiliated ATM, not a standalone one (e.g., avoid EuroNet ATMs, which often charge hidden fees and offer poor conversion rates).

  • Use the XE Currency app to check real-time exchange rates and ensure you’re not overpaying.

  • When paying with a card, always choose to be charged in euros rather than USD when prompted—this avoids dynamic currency conversion fees.

  • Cash is widely used, especially for small purchases like coffee, drinks, or public restrooms. Keep small bills and coins on hand.

  • Tips are not expected like in the U.S. If you’d like to leave something, just round up the bill.

  • Use up all your coins before leaving, as they cannot be exchanged back outside of Europe.

3. Financial Safety

  • Split up your money and cards: keep some in a wallet, some in a secure pouch or money belt, and some locked in your luggage.

  • Use credit cards for larger purchases—they offer more fraud protection than debit cards.

  • Choose a travel credit card with no foreign transaction fees and travel benefits.

  • Notify your bank and credit card companies of your travel dates to avoid account holds.

  • Avoid ATMs with strange devices or that are poorly lit or in isolated areas.

  • Check your bank and credit card accounts regularly for suspicious activity.

  • Be cautious with public Wi-Fi; avoid logging into sensitive accounts. Use a VPN when possible.

4. Personal Safety

  • Sardinia is generally very safe, but standard precautions apply:

    • Keep your wallet in a front pocket or money belt.

    • Use a cross-body purse with a secure zipper or buckle.

    • Avoid wearing expensive jewelry or flashing cash.

    • Be cautious in crowded tourist areas, markets, and transport hubs—these can attract pickpockets.

    • Avoid walking alone late at night in unlit or unfamiliar areas.

    • Register your trip with your country’s embassy or consulate, and keep emergency contact info on hand.

    • Learn a few basic Italian phrases, including how to ask for help (“Aiuto” means “Help”).

5. Transportation Tips

  • Validate train or bus tickets before boarding, using the yellow or green machines at stations—failure to do so can result in a fine.

  • Use licensed taxis or trusted ride-share apps.

  • At airports and stations, stick to official transport providers.

  • Rental cars are a great way to explore inland and coastal areas, but parking can be limited in tourist towns, so plan ahead.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How do I get to Olbia Airport?

There are several great flight connections available. Many airlines connect with European hubs such as London, Paris, Frankfurt, and Rome. From there, you can easily connect to Olbia airport with a short flight operated by European carriers, including Alitalia, EasyJet, or Ryanair, among others.

What kind of Wellness experiences are included?

We will visit specific locations and have special activities tailored to them. A wellness coach will guide all our wellness activities. Yoga, meditation, breathwork, hiking, and water activities are part of the program included on this trip. We also offer an optional special Spa visit during the week, which you can book with us directly.

What is the food like?

We work closely with local farmers to have fresh fruits, vegetables, and protein for our meals. We view this as an essential element of our wellness concept.

What is the usual planning for dinner?

Depending on our daily destination, we usually look for the best restaurant in town and go out for dinner as a group. If you prefer to do your own thing, we are happy to recommend a good restaurant as well. One night, we plan to anchor in a quiet bay to cook a delicious and healthy meal as a group.

What if I am vegan or have dietary requests or allergies?

We are pleased to offer vegan options with all of our meals. To make sure that all dietary needs are accommodated, we ask all our guests to mention any allergies or special requests during the booking process.

This was such a wonderful trip! Yosemite is an absolutely beautiful park and the accommodations were in a great location for getting to the trails. Shantel and Amber were great hosts. Highly recommend and I cannot wait to book another trip with Walker.

This was our second Walker Wellness national park trip and it did not disappoint. The itinerary was exactly the right mix of activity and relaxation for us. The house was attractive and comfortable with plenty of time to enjoy its own spectacular scenery. Zion and Bryce Canyon were equally, and uniquely, beautiful. Our chef, Wendy, made sure we wanted for nothing and her meals were all interesting and delicious. Amanda was a great facilitator and driver and we enjoyed getting to know Amy and Bryan as well. They handled every challenge (inevitable with a group contending with nature’s vagaries) with aplomb. We are looking forward to our next Walker Wellness adventure!
By Walter H for Zion National Park Hiking & Yoga on May 30, 2025
Thank you, Walter! It was such a pleasure having you back with us. We’re so glad the retreat struck the right balance of activity and downtime—and that you had time to soak in the beauty of both the home and the parks. Huge thanks for the kind words about Wendy, Amanda, and the whole crew. We truly value your trust and can’t wait to welcome you on your next Walker Wellness adventure!
