BEWARE! STAY AWAY! I paid the down payment of USD $700. Unfortunately, I wasn't able to go on the climbing expedition to due illness. In fact, I was so sick I could not leave Lima for a week and a half (the time of the planned trip). When I informed SouthTreks about my illness via WhatsApp, they appeared to act like we could coordinate something, perhaps a whole or partial reimbursement, or who knows (for example, we could've planned on going on the climbs in the future). They kept claiming that they had to ask their manager. SouthTreks even said "We are not going to cheat or something." However, SouthTreks started ignoring my messages and ignoring my calls.. SouthTreks is a highly unprofessional and untrustworthy agency. I've hiked with agencies all over Latin America (including, but not limited to, Mexico, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru, Brazil) and never experienced such problems with an agency. The extreme unprofessionalism is unacceptable. My agency in Peru was shocked that SouthTreks would do this to a client. SouthTreks should not be trusted. STAY AWAY!
We had a fantastic time! Such beautiful scenery and great information from our guide Brian. We also had the best driver Rimer (not sure how to spell) who even had to replace a brake disc along the way! The food and accommodation are basic, but adequate. To be expected in such a remote area. Would highly recommend!
