Day by Day Summary of the Salkantay Trek Luxury Tour

Day 1: Cusco – Soraypampa – Humantay Lake – Salkantay Basecamp.- Depart from your hotel in Cusco at 5:00 am, drive for 3 hours to Soraypampa, and have breakfast with your trekking team. After breakfast, start a half-day hike to the stunning Humantay lake. The campsite is at Salkantaypampa (3900 m / 12795 ft)

Day 2: Basecamp – Salkantay Pass – Collpapampa.-Wake up early with a cup of coca tea served in your tent facing the Salkantay Mountain (6271 m / 20574 ft). After breakfast, start the day with a 2-hour ascent to Salkantay Pass (4620 m / 15190 ft). Then, descend for 6 hours through various ecological zones until you arrive at the Jungle village of Collpapampa (2827 m /9274 ft).

Day 3: Collpapampa – Lucmabamba – Llaqtapata.- After breakfast in the village, begin hiking for 3 hours along the cloud forest to Lucmabamba. Stop for lunch along the way and then continue to the coffee plantations located in Lucmabamba (2009 m / 6591 ft). Lunch is a special Pachamanca barbecue. Then hike for 3 hours to the 3rd campsite Llaqtapata (2573 m / 88447 ft), here you’ll have the first glimpse of Machu Picchu.

Day 4: Llaqtapata – Hidroelectica station – Aguas Calientes.- Wake up, open your tent, and you’ll see Machu Picchu from your luxury tent. The day starts with a 2 hour downhill to Hidroelctica station, and follow the trains track for 3 hours to Aguas Calientes (2040 m / 6692 ft). Along the way, you’ll visit the sundial rock and Mandor gardens, both of them visited by Hiram Bingham III. Spend the night in a 4-star hotel.

Day 5: Explore Machu Picchu – Return To Cusco.- Explore early the Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. The guided tour takes around 4  hours. Optional, you can hike Huayna Picchu Mountain (must be requested in advance). Lunch is at Machu Picchu Sanctuary Lodge and Vistadome Train to Return to Cusco.
