DAY 1

DAY 1 image

Cusco – Mollepata – Marcoccasa – Soraypampa (Humantay Lake)

Your adventure begins with a private pickup from your hotel at 5:00 a.m. We will embark on a scenic two-hour drive to the village of Mollepata (9,196 ft / 2,803 m). Here, we will make a strategic technical stop; this is the final supply point to purchase snacks or last-minute essentials before heading deep into the mountain range.

Next, we continue for another hour in our private transport to Soraypampa (12,795 ft / 3,900 m). In this awe-inspiring setting at the foot of the glaciers, our professional chef will welcome you with a gourmet high-energy breakfast, specifically designed for the day’s physical demands.

After breakfast, we begin our hike toward the famous Humantay Lake (13,780 ft / 4,200 m). The first section consists of 30 minutes of gradual terrain to allow for acclimatization, followed by one hour of steady climbing.

Upon reaching the summit, you will be rewarded with the sight of the lake’s turquoise waters, fed directly by the hanging glacier above. Your expert guide will share insights into the geology and the sacred significance of this site in Andean culture.

We will descend for one hour back to Soraypampa to enjoy a three-course lunch prepared with fresh local ingredients. After the meal, we have scheduled a revitalizing 30-minute siesta in your private tents—an essential comfort detail to optimize oxygenation at this altitude.

To conclude the day, we will set off on a two-hour hike to our exclusive campsite at Salkantaypampa (13,451 ft / 4,100 m). This route offers uninterrupted head-on views of Mount Salkantay. Upon arrival, our support crew will have your tents ready and welcome you with hot drinks (Tea Time), allowing you to enjoy the sunset closer to the glacier than any conventional route.

  •  Maximum Altitude: 13,780 ft / 4,200 m (Humantay Lake).

  •  Campsite Altitude: 13,451 ft / 4,100 m (Salkantaypampa).

  •  Total Distance: Approx. 6.8 miles / 11 km.

  •  Hiking Time: 4 to 5 hours of active trekking.

  •  The Ali Perú Advantage: By camping at Salkantaypampa (pushing further than the standard Soraypampa site), we guarantee a much easier second day and a significantly more private and spectacular overnight experience directly facing the majestic Apu Salkantay.

DAY 2

DAY 2 image

Soraypampa – Salkantay Pass – Wayracmachay – Ccollpapampa

The journey begins in the serenity of the mountains with our exclusive hot coca tea service, delivered directly to your tent for optimal acclimatization. After enjoying a high-mountain energy breakfast, we will begin the technical ascent along the legendary path known as the «Trail of the 7 Snakes.» This 3-to-4-hour stretch will test your determination, rewarding you with the arrival at the zenith of our expedition: the majestic Salkantay Pass (15,190 ft / 4,630 m).

At this sacred summit, our expert guide will share ancestral stories and lead a special ceremony to honor Apu Salkantay. It is a moment of profound connection where you can enjoy the most breathtaking views of the hanging glaciers and the vastness of the mountain range.

After conquering the summit, we will begin a technical descent of approximately 3 hours toward Wayracmachay. At this strategic point, our culinary team will welcome you with a comforting gourmet lunch, specifically designed to restore your energy levels after the physical effort at high altitude. This rest is vital to prepare your body for the drastic change in climate and ecosystem that we will experience next.

As we continue the descent, we will witness one of the most astonishing ecological transitions in the world: the entry into the lush cloud forest. You will notice the air becoming denser, oxygen-rich, and significantly warmer. The austere landscape of rock and snow gives way to a vibrant cloud forest, a sanctuary of wild orchids, giant ferns, and diverse wildlife.

Finally, we arrive at our campsite in Collpapampa (9,514 ft / 2,900 m). Here, the absolute silence of the peaks is replaced by the symphony of tropical sounds. It is the perfect atmosphere to enjoy a restorative dinner prepared by our chef and surrender to a deep rest under the starry jungle sky.

  •  Maximum Altitude: 15,190 ft / 4,630 m (Salkantay Pass).

  •  Lunch Station: Wayracmachay (Key recovery point).

  •  Campsite Altitude: 9,514 ft / 2,900 m (Collpapampa).

  •  Total Distance: Approx. 11.2 miles / 18 km.

  •  Hiking Time: 7 to 9 hours of pure expedition.

DAY 3

DAY 3 image

Ccollpapampa – La Playa – Lucmabamba

Today’s journey is a serene and revitalizing 5-to-6-hour descent through the heart of the tropical zone. Following the winding course of the Santa Teresa River, we will enter a vibrant ecosystem where biodiversity flourishes at every step. You will hike through plantations of exotic fruits such as passion fruit, bananas, and avocados, all surrounded by the lush exuberance characteristic of the Peruvian cloud forest.

Unlike other itineraries, Ali Perú Treks optimizes your rest time. We head directly to our exclusive campsite in Lucmabamba (6,561 ft / 2,000 m), where our culinary team will welcome you with a fresh and nutritious gourmet lunch. By having lunch at the same location where we camp, you will have the opportunity to settle into your tent comfortably, freshen up, and enjoy a restorative siesta without the need for additional travel.

After your rest, the afternoon is reserved for one of the most genuine cultural encounters of our expedition. We will visit a local organic farm adjacent to our camp for a total immersion into the world of high-altitude coffee.

As part of our Ethical and Sustainable Tourism philosophy, you will actively participate in the entire artisanal process: from the manual selection and harvesting of the beans in the fields to the traditional roasting and grinding. The experience culminates in a private tasting where you will savor one of the finest cups of coffee in the world, learning firsthand about the passion and hard work of local farming families. This experience is a tribute to the land that our agency is proud to support directly.

  •  Maximum Altitude: 9,514 ft / 2,900 m (Departure from Collpapampa).

  •  Lunch & Campsite Location: Lucmabamba (6,561 ft / 2,000 m).

  •  Total Distance: Approx. 10 miles / 16 km.

  •  Hiking Time: 5 to 6 hours of light trekking.

  •  The Ali Perú Advantage: By centralizing both lunch and camping in Lucmabamba, we offer much more relaxed and efficient logistics. This allows you to fully enjoy the cultural coffee experience without interruptions.

DAY 4

DAY 4 image

Lucmabamba – Llactapata – Aguas Calientes

Our day begins with a 3-hour ascent along a perfectly preserved section of the Original Inca Trail. Unlike standard commercial routes, this path allows you to walk in the exact footsteps of the Inca royalty from centuries ago. Surrounded by dense vegetation and the songs of endemic birds, you will feel the deep mysticism of history etched into every stone.

Our route leads us directly to the Llactapata Archaeological Site (9,317 ft / 2,840 m). This is a strategic highlight of the Ali Perú Treks experience: from this vantage point, you will enjoy an exclusive, panoramic lateral view of Machu Picchu and Huayna Picchu Mountain in the distance. Very few travelers ever see this unique perspective of the citadel, making this moment a truly inspiring prelude to your official visit.

After capturing the majesty of the Andes, we begin a dynamic and steep descent toward the Aobamba Valley until we reach Hydroelectrica. Here, we share our final gourmet lunch with our dedicated team of chefs and porters. This is a special moment of gratitude and connection with the incredible people who made your expedition possible.

The final leg of the journey is a 3-hour flat hike following the train tracks along the powerful Vilcanota River. This trail is enveloped in a high-jungle microclimate, home to wild orchids and coffee plantations. Finally, we arrive at Aguas Calientes (6,692 ft / 2,040 m), where we check into our comfortable hotel for a relaxing dinner as we prepare for the grand finale at the Lost City of the Incas.

  •  Maximum Altitude: 9,317 ft / 2,840 m (Llactapata Ruins).

  •  Final Destination: Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Town).

  •  Total Distance: Approx. 9.3 miles / 15 km.

  •  Hiking Time: 6 to 7 hours of active exploration.

The Ali Perú Advantage: Our route via Llactapata offers a preview of Machu Picchu that 90% of conventional tourists never get to see. This is the ultimate «off-the-beaten-path» experience.
