Discover the stunning Salt Flats Route starting from San Pedro de Atacama; this journey takes you toward the Andes Mountains to explore some of the most breathtaking landscapes of the Chilean high plateau (altiplano). Along the way, you will visit the Licancabur viewpoint, the Quepiaco River wetland, the Pacana viewpoint, the towering Monjes de la Pacana rock formations, and the Quisquiro and Aguas Calientes salt flats.

07:00 – We begin our excursion by picking you up at your accommodation within the town of San Pedro de Atacama. From there, we head east toward the Andes Mountains, gradually ascending to the high plateau.

Our first stop is the Licancabur viewpoint, offering stunning views of the mountain landscape and the Licancabur volcano.

We continue to the Quepiaco River wetland, a natural area where we can observe the contrast between high-plateau vegetation and the Andes mountains.

This landscape showcases how the presence of water creates pockets of vegetation amidst the arid Atacama Desert.

We proceed to the Pacana viewpoint, which offers a panoramic view of the high-plateau landscape and the geological formations characteristic of this mountain area.

Next, we will visit the famous Monjes de la Pacana—massive, natural stone pillars that rise vertically and in isolation amidst the desert.

We will continue to the Quisquiro Salt Flat, located at an altitude of over 4,000 meters above sea level.

Our final stop will be the Aguas Calientes Salt Flat, known for its waters of varying hues that contrast with the desert landscape and the Andes mountains.

After enjoying this natural setting, we will begin our return journey to San Pedro de Atacama.

We will conclude the excursion by returning to San Pedro de Atacama and dropping you off in the town center.
