Begin your trip in Santo Domingo, where the Colonial Zone’s cobblestone streets and lively plazas set the stage for your adventure. From there, head north to Samaná, a peninsula known for its hidden beaches, lush landscapes, and rich Afro-Caribbean culture. After exploring the region, take a boat across the bay to Los Haitises National Park, a magical sanctuary of mangroves, caves, and ancient Taino petroglyphs. As you make your way back to Santo Domingo, stop in Miches, where panoramic views from Montaña Redonda will take your breath away, and in Bayahibe, a picturesque fishing village with crystal-clear waters perfect for relaxation and snorkeling.
This itinerary is designed for travelers who seek both adventure and connection—with nature, culture, and the vibrant communities that make the Dominican Republic so unique. Get ready for an unforgettable journey through the soul of the Caribbean!
Arrive in Santo Domingo, drop off your bags at the hotel, and head out for your first night in the Colonial Zone, the historic walled quarter and UNESCO World Heritage site that is rich with food and music. Old colonial buildings have been converted into coffee shops, restaurants, and community arts spaces, and the weather allows for a blossoming bohemian scene at night where the La Zona Colonial’s plazas and squares become centers for artistic, folkloric and cultural expressions. Welcome to Quisqueya!
Breakfast at the hotel will be followed by a Drive northeast from Santo Domingo on a picturesque route through Los Haitises National Park, where you’ll take in views of its characteristic mogotes—lush, limestone hills rising dramatically from the landscape. After about three hours, arrive in the town of Samaná, where you’ll have the chance to explore the islets connected by a scenic bridge, offering great views of the bay.
Enjoy a delicious Caribbean lunch in Samana before continuing to Las Galeras, a laid-back beach town known for its natural beauty. Settle into your eco-lodge, then head out to Playa Rincón, a three-mile stretch of turquoise waters and fine white sands, flanked by lush green hills. Spend the afternoon swimming in the calm waters, taking in the scenery, or simply relaxing on one of the most well-known beaches in the Americas before returning to your hotel.
After breakfast, take a speedboat across Samaná Bay to Cayo Levantado, a small island known for its clear waters and sandy shores. Spend the day swimming, snorkeling, or exploring the island’s walking trails. Enjoy a beachside lunch featuring local seafood and traditional Dominican dishes. In the afternoon, relax by the water or take in views of the bay before returning to your hotel. The evening is free for you to explore Las Galeras and have dinner at a restaurant of your choice.
Get ready for an adventure! After a hearty breakfast, take a short walk to La Playita, then hop on a boat to Playa Frontón, a remote beach surrounded by towering cliffs and white sands. Snorkel in its clear, fish-filled waters, spotting colorful marine life. Enjoy a fresh fruit snack before heading to Playa Madama, where you can relax by the shore or explore a nearby cave just steps from the water. Return to Las Galeras for lunch, then spend a laid-back afternoon at the beach.
Take a boat across Samaná Bay, keeping an eye out for dolphins along the way to Paraíso Caño Hondo, an eco-hotel built into the rock formations near Los Haitises National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage site. In the afternoon, tour Los Haitises by boat, passing limestone rock formations and visiting Cayo de los Pájaros (Bird Key), home to pelicans and other seabirds. Explore two caverns with Taino pictographs and petroglyphs, then stop for a swim at a remote beach before navigating through the mangroves back to Caño Hondo.
This morning, choose between a guided nature walk through Los Haitises National Park, where you can spot birds, butterflies, and native flora, or relaxing in the natural pools at Paraíso Caño Hondo, surrounded by the peaceful sounds of the canyon. Keep an eye out for the Ridgway’s Hawk, Antillean Piculet, Hispaniolan Woodpecker, and other native birds soaring above the landscape.
After lunch at Caño Hondo, drive back to Santo Domingo for a special final dinner in La Zona Colonial, followed by a night out enjoying the live music, local bars, and vibrant atmosphere of the historic district.
