About your trip

This Samburu and Masai Mara safari holiday explores Kenya’s wildlife and landscapes in Samburu and Masai Mara National Reserves.

The trip will start off in Nairobi and head to the Samburu National Reserve. In Samburu, you will go on several game drives to see the wildlife that lives there. You will also visit the Reteti Elephant Sanctuary and the Kisima Hamsini (singing wells) for a cultural experience of the local Samburu pastoralists.

We’ll then get on a short flight to the Masai Mara for more wildlife adventures. You will go on several game drives to see the teeming wildlife of the Masai Mara, especially the big cats and towering herds of giraffes, among others.

You will also go on a walking safari for a closer connection to the Masai Mara and the ecosystem around you. Before leaving, you will visit the rhino sanctuary and proceed to the airstrip for your flight to Nairobi, where the safari ends.

The safari offers great opportunities for experiencing Kenya’s wilderness and seeing the animals that live there. This safari package is all-inclusive and ideal for both groups and individuals.

Day 1

Arrival at Jomo Kenyatta Airport – Fly to Samburu

Arrive at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, where our driver/guide will drive you to Wilson Airport for your flight to Samburu. You will reach Samburu an hour later, where your guide will meet you and transfer you to the lodge, or take you on a game drive. 

Enjoy an afternoon game drive in the Sera Community Conservancy exploring over 200,000 acres of pristine wilderness in total privacy and sundowners with a breathtaking view.

Day 2

Black Rhino Tracking Experience

You will have an early morning black rhino tracking experience followed by a visit to the Kisima Hamsini Singing Wells. Here, you will witness Samburu pastoralists watering and singing their uniquely recognized songs to their livestock at a series of natural wells, bringing water up from the depths as they have done for centuries. (Wells are seasonal).

Thereafter, you will have a picnic lunch and return to camp where you will relax for the afternoon. 

In the evening, you will enjoy a candle-lit bush dinner with the Samburu warriors dancing around a fire under the starlit African skies.

Day 3

Transfer to Saruni Samburu

You will have a morning game drive (including a bush breakfast) en route to Saruni Samburu, looking out for the Samburu Special Five.

Upon arrival at Saruni Samburu, you will be treated to an al fresco lunch overlooking the Kalama Conservancy.

Spend the afternoon relaxing in the lodge with a complimentary half-hour Back & Neck massage in the Samburu Wellbeing Space.

In the evening, you will go for a short game drive during which you will enjoy sundowners at a waterhole, before heading back to the lodge for a starlit dinner.

Day 4

Wildlife game drives in Samburu

Today, you will continue to explore the wonders of Samburu with a morning game drive along

the Ewaso Nyiro River.

In the afternoon, you will enroll in the Warrior’s Academy where you will immerse yourself in

traditional Samburu culture.

In the evening, you will have yet another game drive in Kalama Conservancy, ending with a starlit bush dinner followed by a night drive back to the lodge.

Fly to Masai Mara

You will leave Samburu on a morning flight and arrive in the Masai Mara an hour and a half later.

Enjoy your first Mara game drive with a picnic lunch, or head to Saruni Leopard Hill to relax and refresh.

In the afternoon, you will have a game drive in the private Mara Naboisho Conservancy followed by dinner in camp and an optional night game drive.

Day 6

Wildlife game drives in the Masai Mara – Big cats safari

Early morning game drive to look for the big cats and other predators of the Mara, returning to the camp or lodge for lunch and treatments at the Maasai Wellbeing Space.

In the afternoon, a game drive will take you to the secret haunts of the elusive creature that gave the Leopard Hill camp its name.

You will enjoy a bush dinner under the vast African sky, with traditional Maasai singing and dancing.

Day 7

Wildlife walking safari in Masai Mara

Walk in the valleys and plains surrounding Saruni Leopard Hill, or a game drive in search of the famous Naboisho lions – led by your skillful and knowledgeable Maasai guides.

Later, you will return to the camp where you will enjoy a private dinner.

Day 8: Departure.

Today, you will drive through the Mara Naboisho Conservancy to the airstrip, looking out for wildlife on the way. You will then be driven to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport. 

Depending on the time of your flight, you can stop at the Talisman or Carnivore restaurant for dinner at your expense.

This will mark the end of your 8 Days Samburu & Masai Mara safari holiday.
