1.-Los Gemelos: They are located in the rural area of Santa Cruz Island, in the Santa Rosa parish on Baltra Avenue, 22 kilometers or 45 minutes from Puerto Ayora. The Twins are a geological formation formed by volcanic precipitation when the islands were active. This is the only part of the island surrounded by native forest. There are many types of land birds that live here, including the witch bird.
In the “Los Gemelos” craters, we will take a short walk to get up close and personal with the endemic fauna and flora of this island. It is the perfect place to take photographs and enjoy one of the most beautiful views.
2.-El Chato: The El Chato ranch is located in the rural area, in the Santa Rosa parish, and is located 21.7 kilometers (40 minutes) from Puerto Ayora.
The reserve allows visitors to observe giant tortoises in the wild during the dry season, and is also a good place to spot owls and Darwin's finches.
Depending on the time of year, it is possible to see a large number of giant Galapagos tortoises. Turtles are usually found among the bushes or taking a bath in one of the pools of water formed by the rain.
3.-The Lava Tunnel, or Tunnel of Love: It is located in the Bella Vista parish in the rural area of Santa Cruz, 1 km from the Cascajo highway and 8 km from Puerto Ayora.
The approximately 1 kilometer long Tunnel was formed when the surface of the lava flow cooled upon contact with the colder atmosphere. As it cools and hardens, it acts as an insulating material, preventing the hot fluid material that continues to flow beneath it from solidifying.
At the end of the eruption, once all the lava has passed, we will have the pipe empty. Due to cooling, cracking, vibration, the top of the tube usually breaks and collapses, exposing its interior.
It is not suitable for claustrophobics or people with reduced mobility. In addition to going up and down between the stones, some of them have to crawl on the ground , so light clothing is recommended. The entire tunnel is illuminated.
