The Satpura national park is located in Madhya Pradesh in India was established in 1981. It is located in the Hoshangabad district. Popularly known as Satpura tiger reserve its name is derived from the Satpura range which covers an area of 524 km2 (202 sq mi). Born and Pachmari are the neighboring wildlife sanctuaries to Satpura national park which altogether provides 2,200 km2 (850 sq mi) of unique central Indian highland ecosystem.


HISTORY


The name Satpura is derived from the Sanskrit word Satpura which means seven hills. It was first discovered by Captain James Forsyth. It is one of the first reserved forests of India and was later declared a national park. Later due to its activities and important role in tiger reserve it was later known as Satpura Tiger Reserve (STR).


THE BIODIVERSITY OF SATPURA


Satpura national park is rich in biodiversity. Some of its animals are the leopard, sambhar chital, mouse deer, fox, porcupine, chinkara, spotted deer, horned antelopes, marsh crocodiles, golden jackal, languages, Indian bison (Gaur), flying squirrel, wild boar, bear, black buck and many more. It's rich in birds too like hornbill, peafowl along with many others. It also preserves flora like teak, sandalwood, emblica, mahua and bamboo grass. It also has many medicinal plants with large medicinal properties. These were namely few of the rich flora and fauna of the Satpura national park.


CLIMATE OF SATPURA NATIONAL PARK


The climate here varies according to seasons. During summers the temperatures may rise but as it is located on higher peaks the temperature is low. During monsoons, the average rainfall in this region is from 1300- 1700 which provides a large amount of water. Apart from monsoon water, other main sources of water are from the Tawa dam and Denwa river. During winters the temperature falls down to as low a 1 degree Celsius.

The Satpura national park provides a lot of fun things to do. It allows sightseeing in jeep safaris which allows experiencing the park comfortably. However, it has an accommodation capacity of 8 people in which one is the driver and other is the guide who guides you through the park. Elephant rides are also available for elephant lovers and wildlife enthusiasts. The nearest river which is Denwa river is also open for the tourists. Sightseeing and boating are allowed for visitors.


MAIN ATTRACTIONS OF SATPURA NATIONAL PARK


There are many attractions here which are:-

1)PANDAV CAVES:- the famous Pandav caves according to Hindu beliefs was a home for the five Pandav brothers along with Draupadi when they were in exile. As the name, Pandav suggests five there are five caves located on the Satpura hill.


2)BEE FALLS:- these beautiful falls are located in Panchmarhi and is a major tourist attraction. This is a natural waterfall falling deep into 35 meters deep valley in a forest.


3) ROCK PAINTINGS:- This place also has archaeological significance. There is more than 50 rock shelters with paintings from 1500-1000 years old. These rock paintings are spectacular having hand carved paintings of elephants, tigers, and other animals.


4)SHRI NAGADWAR SWAMI TEMPLE:- It is located in Madhya Pradesh and holds a significant position for spiritual prayers and sacrifices. Its main drawing feature is that it is a home for all beliefs but specifically Hinduism, Muslim, Christians and Jainism.

1)PENCH NATIONAL PARK:- This park is located on the borders of both Madhya Pradesh and Maharastra. It is also a very popular national park and is home to Nilgai, wild dog, wild pig, hyena, palm civet, jackal and many more.


2)KANHA NATIONAL PARK:- The kit is another popular national park of Madhya Pradesh preserving a huge number of species like tiger, gaur, cheetah, python, barking deer, money, etc.


3)NAURADEHI WILDLIFE SANCTUARY:- This famous sanctuary of Madhya Pradesh is among one of the largest sanctuaries in Madhya Pradesh covering n are of 5500 sq km. It is home to wild dogs, leopards, tigers, chitals, foxes, chakras, etc.


HOW TO REACH SATPURA NATIONAL PARK?


The fastest and easiest way to reach Satpura is from the sharper railway station. This is the closest station to Satpura national park which is 20 km. However, it is a small station so most express trains do not stop here. Apart from this, the other best option is Pipariya railway station. Although it is quite a long route like 45 km away from the Satpura national park still the best option as compared to others.
