How easy is it?

Moderate to intense.  To really enjoy this activity, participants needs to be able to walk a natural hiking path  for 30-45 minutes each way.

Scarlet Macaws in Red Bank, Belize

Scarlet Macaw Experience – Red Bank Village

This immersive inland adventure takes guests to Red Bank Village, one of Belize’s most reliable locations to observe wild Scarlet Macaws in their natural environment. Migrating from the forested regions of the Chiquibul Wildlife Sanctuary, these magnificent birds gather seasonally along the riverbanks and surrounding farmlands of Red Bank, offering exceptional viewing opportunities—especially between December and March.

Guests enjoy a scenic drive from Placencia into a traditional Maya farming community, where the rhythm of village life, river culture, and conservation-minded living create a meaningful cultural backdrop to the wildlife experience.

  • Macaws Only – Focused wildlife viewing and village exploration

  • Macaws & River Tubing – Relaxing float along the village river after macaw spotting (bring snacks, towel and dry change of clothing)

  • Macaws & Waterfall Swimming – Combine birdwatching with a refreshing jungle waterfall stop. (bring snacks, towel and dry change of clothing)

What to bring: 

  • An adventurous mindset

  • Bug spray

  • Your medication

  • Comfortable footwear

  • Binoculars 

  • Towel and change of clothing if you plan to swim. 

What to wear:

  • Comfortable clothes that are cool and will cover your skin for protection from bugs. 

  • Comfortable footwear, eg. Keen, tevas or tennis shoes.  Flips flop or slides are not acceptable footwear.

Swimming:

  • As a group it is decided if you want to swim.  Swimming is not part of the tour experience, but if there are a few extra minutes you may choose to swim.


Special Note: Ground-tours include round-trip transportation from accommodation to tour site, tour guide and , light breakfast, bottled water, park entrance fees, and sales tax.
