Board a private coach for a full day exploring Scotland's history in the area around Inverness. Your journey begins in Inverness, the capital of the Highlands, before heading to the historic Culloden Battlefield, site of the last pitched battle fought on British soil in 1746. Here you’ll walk the windswept moor and learn about the dramatic events that shaped Scotland’s history. A short drive takes you to the mysterious Clava Cairns, a Bronze Age burial site with standing stones and ancient passage graves, steeped in myth and legend. Continuing on, you’ll enjoy a relaxing lunch in Nairn, a charming seaside town with beautiful coastal views. In the afternoon, the tour explores Fort George, an impressive 18th-century fortress built after Culloden to secure British rule, where the vast ramparts and military heritage offer a fascinating glimpse into the past. The day concludes back in Inverness, with time to reflect on the rich history and landscapes experienced along the way.

It’s an early start, leaving behind the 'Capital of the Highlands', crossing over the Black Isle, and continuing past Dunrobin Castle.
From here, you drive along the northeast Highland coastline, travelling into some of Scotland's most dramatic scenery. Onwards through Scotland's most northerly mainland village, John o' Groats, and then to Gills Bay, where you board the ferry, and cross the Pentland Firth into the Orkney Archipelago. It’s a short drive to the famous Italian Chapel where you stop for a visit before continuing  to the Viking stronghold of Kirkwall, capital of Orkney. Here you can visit Kirkwall's magnificent Viking Cathedral and enjoy its historic winding streets in the evening.

Today is your chance to explore the modern and ancient wonders of this fantastic island; a land of contrasts, where fertile green pastures are fringed by shores of golden sands washed by waters of the North Sea and the Atlantic Ocean.You visit the 5,000-year-old village of Skara Brae, the mystical prehistoric stone circle at Brodgar and the Druidic standing stones of Stenness. Then you explore the cairn of Maeshowe, where in the 12th century the Vikings left one of the largest collections of Norse runic inscriptions. Then it’s back to Kirkwall for your second night after what is sure to be a memorable day.

You'll have your last chance to grab some gifts for friends and family, and visit the local cathedral in Kirkwall. And after a ferry back to the mainland, you travel through the history-soaked regions of Caithness and Sutherland. You’ll find out about the Highland clearances, a world-changing period in Scotland’s dark history, and get a glimpse of some of Scotland’s most remote fishing villages. We arrive back in Inverness early evening.

We board the LNER train early in the morning as we head to the lowlands & Edinburgh. We'll drop off our bags at the hotel then take some time to explore the famous Royal Mile on our own before coming together for a guided group tour of Edinburgh Castle in the afternoon.

Embark on a full-day Scottish adventure starting from Edinburgh, with your first stop at the historic and mysterious Rosslyn Chapel. Continue to the iconic Kelpies, where you can enjoy a packed lunch while taking in these impressive horse-head sculptures. Explore the grandeur of Stirling Castle, steeped in Scottish history, and visit Dunfermline Abbey, one of Scotland’s most significant religious sites. The tour concludes with a return to Edinburgh, leaving you with unforgettable memories of Scotland’s landmarks and heritage.

All good things must end! We say goodbye to our group and head to the airport and home...or maybe you'll choose to stay on your own and explore more of what Scotland has to offer. Until next time!
