Spend the remainder of the day exploring Edinburgh at your leisure. You may wish to stroll the Royal Mile, enjoy views of Edinburgh Castle illuminated above the city, or relax with a traditional Scottish dinner and perhaps a whisky tasting experience.

Begin the day with a visit to Palace of Holyroodhouse, the official Scottish residence of the British monarch and one of Edinburgh’s most historic royal sites.

From here, enjoy a guided walking tour through Edinburgh’s atmospheric Old Town, exploring:

Depart Edinburgh and travel southwest through Ayrshire toward Scotland’s beautiful west coast.

Your first stop today is Culzean Castle, one of Scotland’s most spectacular clifftop castles. Designed by Robert Adam for the Kennedy family, the castle overlooks the Firth of Clyde and is surrounded by magnificent gardens, woodland walks, and dramatic coastal scenery.

Continue onward to Ardrossan and board the ferry to the Isle of Arran, often described as “Scotland in Miniature” due to its combination of Highland mountains and Lowland landscapes.

Arrive in Brodick and enjoy your first evening on the island.

A full day discovering the landscapes, history, and coastal beauty of Arran.

Begin in Brodick with a visit to Brodick Castle and its gardens, beautifully positioned beneath the mountains of Goat Fell.

Continue south along the island’s scenic coastal road to the ancient stone circles at Machrie Moor Standing Stones, one of Scotland’s most atmospheric prehistoric sites.

Travel onward to the fishing village of Blackwaterfoot before continuing north through the island’s western coastline to Lochranza Castle, sitting dramatically beside the water.

Finish the day with a visit to Lochranza Distillery for an optional whisky tasting before returning to your accommodation.

Depart Arran via the ferry from Lochranza to Claonaig and continue north through the beautiful landscapes of Argyll.

Travel along the shores of Loch Fyne to the picturesque town of Inveraray and visit Inveraray Castle, ancestral home of the Duke of Argyll and Clan Campbell.

Continue onward to Kilmartin Glen, one of Europe’s richest prehistoric landscapes, home to ancient standing stones, burial cairns, rock carvings, and archaeological sites dating back thousands of years. Spend some time in the harbor town of Oban, known as the “Gateway to the Isles.”

Board the morning ferry from Oban to Craignure on the Isle of Mull.

Travel across Mull through dramatic island scenery to Fionnphort, where you will take the passenger ferry to the sacred Isle of Iona.

Visit Iona Abbey, founded by St Columba in 563 AD and considered the birthplace of Christianity in Scotland.

Continue by boat excursion to Staffa to see the famous Fingal’s Cave and, seasonally, puffin colonies nesting on the island cliffs.

Return to Mull and continue north to the colorful harbor town of Tobermory.

Depart Tobermory this morning and board the ferry to Kilchoan on the remote Ardnamurchan Peninsula, one of the wildest and least-visited regions of mainland Scotland.

Travel through spectacular coastal scenery with views across sea lochs, rugged mountains, and tiny Highland communities. Continue east toward Glenfinnan, where you will visit Glenfinnan Viaduct, famous for the Jacobite Steam Train and its appearance in the Harry Potter films. Nearby stands the Glenfinnan Monument overlooking Loch Shiel, commemorating Bonnie Prince Charlie and the Jacobite Rising of 1745.

Continue west along the breathtaking Road to the Isles, passing white-sand beaches around Arisaig and Morar often compared to Caribbean scenery on a sunny day.

Arrive in the busy fishing port of Mallaig and board the ferry to Armadale on the Isle of Skye, enjoying the Small Isles and dramatic views back toward the mainland during the crossing.

Upon arrival on Skye, travel north through the island’s rugged landscapes to Portree, Skye’s picturesque harbor town with its colorful waterfront and surrounding cliffs.

Today is dedicated to discovering the dramatic scenery, Gaelic heritage, and legendary landscapes of the Isle of Skye.

Begin the morning at Old Man of Storr, one of Scotland’s most iconic landscapes, where towering rock pinnacles rise dramatically above the sea.

Continue north through the spectacular scenery of the Quiraing, a landscape of cliffs, landslides, hidden plateaus, and winding roads formed by ancient geological activity.

Travel onward to Kilt Rock and Mealt Falls, where waterfalls plunge directly into the sea below towering basalt cliffs.

After lunch in Portree or one of Skye’s small villages, continue west to Dunvegan Castle, ancestral home of Clan MacLeod for over 800 years. The castle sits beside Loch Dunvegan and contains clan treasures, historic artwork, and beautiful gardens.

Later, visit Talisker Distillery, Skye’s most famous whisky distillery, known for its rich maritime single malts.

Begin exploring Harris with a visit to Luskentyre Beach, widely regarded as one of the most beautiful beaches in Europe, with white sands and turquoise waters stretching beneath the mountains.

Depart Pitlochry and begin the journey south through Perthshire toward Edinburgh.
