A Natural History Expedition Through One of the World's Great Marine Ecosystems
Discover the Bioversity of the Sea of Cortez
April is an extraordinary time to explore the Sea of Cortez, one of the world’s most spectacular and vibrant marine environments. This ten-day journey begins in La Paz and travels north to Loreto, weaving through the protected marine parks of the southern Gulf islands. With six days and five nights aboard the comfortable M/V Valentina, complemented by four nights in hotels in La Paz and Loreto, you’ll experience the very best of Baja California Sur both on and off the water.
As migrating whales arrive to give birth, mate, and feed, the sea becomes a stage for remarkable encounters. Witness magnificent blue whales, swim alongside whale sharks feeding in nutrient-rich waters, and discover the incredible diversity of marine life that calls this region home or visits on its annual migration. Observe coastal birds preparing their young for flight and visit a newly established colony of Guadalupe fur seals, a remarkable conservation success story.
With beautiful spring weather, dramatic desert landscapes, secluded islands, and a thriving ocean ecosystem, every day offers a new discovery.

Day 3 - 8 | Board the M/V Valentina
This is an extraordinary time of year in the Sea of Cortez. As we travel south, we may encounter blue whales and other migratory marine animals, feeding whales, mobula rays, dolphins, sea turtles, and an abundance of life thriving in these nutrient-rich waters.
No two days will be alike. Weather, tides, and wildlife movements shape our adventures, from exploring remote mangroves renowned for world-class birdwatching to visiting historic fishing villages and, conditions permitting, a rare sea lion colony where Guadalupe fur seals may be seen alongside California sea lions.
Where conditions and conservation activities allow, we may participate in sea turtle monitoring or explore shorelines as nesting season begins. As daylight fades, the night sky comes alive, revealing a spectacular canopy of stars far from city lights.
Following our final morning and early-afternoon adventures, we will enjoy lunch before disembarking at approximately 3:00 p.m. Our driver will transfer you to Hotel Oasis in Loreto for a relaxing two-night stay, a perfect opportunity to reflect on our extraordinary journey from La Paz to Loreto.
