The Sea to Sky Marine Trail stretches from Horseshoe Bay to Gibsons to Squamish and is the only saltwater route on the Trans Canada Trail network. Standup paddleboarders, kayakers and canoeists are now able to safely navigate Atlkitsem (Howe Sound) and overnight along the coastline via a network of three provincial parks and six campsites never more than 17 kilometres from one to the next. Howe Sound is the most southern fjord in North America where steep sided granite mountains soar from the ocean depths. This is also the home and traditional lands of the Squamish First Nations who have inhabited this area for the past 10,000 years. After decades of environmental degradation and heavy industrial use, Howe Sound has made a remarkable ecological comeback. Humpback whales, Orca, Stellar Sea lions, Bald Eagles and Harbour Seals are now regularly seen foraging and making a home in the glacial fed waters.
Our two night three day mini expedition explores the estuary and ocean shorelines of northern Howe Sound. Camping is at designated sites along the Sea to Sky Marine trail and days will be spent touring this unique coastal ecosystem while avoiding the anabatic winds that are common throughout the day. Your guide Tina Currie, has decades of paddling and instructional experience and is excited to share the magic of Howe Sound with you. Reset, connect and paddle the sacred waters of the Coast Salish people.
