About this trip

Come on a journey to the beautiful village of Sarangkot Pandeli and meet small local Arabica coffee farmers. This experience covers most stages of organic coffee farming and processing method from the seed germination process to farming, harvesting, processing, and roasting. Learn more about the community-focused non-profit organization called Sharing Seeds which is helping local farmers by providing training and sharing updated knowledge required in coffee farming and its challenges to operate sustainably.

The Community Work is featured by one of the famous French vloggers, please have a look at this video through this link

Through the help of Sharing Seeds, local small coffee farmers are getting 30% more money for their coffee cherries compared to other collectors - this is of course hugely motivating farmers to adopt coffee farming on their barren land.

The offered tour is an in-depth experience of coffee farming, and you will get an insight into the important environmental, economic, and social benefits of Arabica coffee farming.

This fascinating day will end with a delicious organic lunch served in nature. Get a glimpse of the real Nepal intreating with local people.

Itinerary

Coffee Tour
Visiting Pandeli Village and Sharing seeds community projects

Your private guide will welcome you to Pokhara. After meeting at Lakeside, we will start the hike following the shore of Phewa Lake. Fisherman at beautiful Phewa Lake, Rice terraces, Paragliders above the blue sky, and an uphill hike up to the Pandeli Village through the community forest for another 2 hrs is a very active and refreshing journey.

The community of coffee farmers will warmly welcome you and you start discovering the local village and surrounding coffee farms on foot. A local NPO, Sharing Seeds, initiated several community-based projects like Arabica coffee farming, bee farming, and a women cooperative producing home textiles. You will pass by the Sharing Seeds bee farming station and hear about the challenges and benefits of honey production – you should try some delicious local honey.

Meet some of the local women's cooperatives involved in producing recyclable handicrafts and listen to their stories. Don’t miss to check out their small boutique shop - you might find a lovely handmade bag to take home. On the coffee farm owned by local farmers, you get the chance to exchange the methods and challenges of producing high-quality coffee cherries.

Depending on the season, you will see Arabica coffee flowers blooming, local female coffee farmers during the coffee seedling distribution, or even coffee farmers harvesting the ripe coffee cherries. Visit the local coffee processing center at Khadkathar village of Sarangkot and watch a demonstration of them pulping fresh red coffee cherries or the hand sorting process after the hulling process of coffee parchment. Your guide will give you access to the drying center and explain the coffee grading process. This fascinating day will end with a delicious local organic lunch served on the coffee farm before your guide takes you back to Pokhara by a scenic drive of 30min- with a bit of luck, the view will include not only Pokhara lake and colorful mustard fields, but also the breath-taking Annapurna Mountain range. And last but not least you will of course have a chance to appreciate and enjoy a cup of delicious freshly brewed local coffee.
