Our most dear and cherished friend, Judith Hanson Lasater, blesses us with her return to the Feathered Pipe Ranch inviting every level of student, from beginners to teachers, to embrace yoga as a practice of learning who we are, not simply something we “do.” Among the many gifts of insight Judith gives to her students is an embodied understanding that practicing yoga shapes not just our lives, but is capable of informing our being on fundamental levels.
Our daily schedule will include two distinct practice periods. Each morning after we’ve savored the arrival of the day’s light and birdsong (not to mention breakfast) we will set a practice intention based on Patanjali’s Yoga Sutras followed by an active yoga practice all the basic types of poses. Our joyful work will be to challenge our bodies with compassion and drawn our minds inward through curiosity and focus on the postures. Every afternoon we will settle deeply into restorative poses to unwind and decompress from the stresses of modern life. Each day will also include pranayama (breathing) and a dedicated period for meditation.
To take maximum advantage of the tonic offered by the Ranch’s magical alchemy, afternoons between lunch and class are wide open for you to do whatever you choose: hike, read, nap, swim, socialize, or simply BE without doing. Judith strongly encourages the latter! She asks that you refrain from bringing any form of work with you. Evenings will include one question and answer about teaching and practicing which will be open to all, as well as a presentation by JoAnn Lyons, Judith’s long-time assistant, on her work with students facing great challenges from disabilities.
And it certainly wouldn’t be Judith’s workshop without Friday night’s signature “Talent Show.” So do bring your instrument, a poem to read, a joke to perform or a dance to share. We 100 percent guarantee that all acts will be thunderously applauded!
