About your trip

Join your hosts, Abagail Fritz and Moussa N'Diaye in Dakar, Senegal and surrounding cities for a two week journey into the culture, daily life, and history of Senegal!

We'll be dancing, drumming, exploring local sights, and participating in local events such as tannebers, concerts, traditional ceremonies, and Senegalese soirees. Enjoy 2 x dance classes a day Monday - Friday, one on Saturdays, rest days on Sundays. Not into dancing? No problem, there will be plenty of other activities to choose from, and we'll be sure to give you a well-rounded cultural experience from cooking and language classes, to learning about local hot spots, to experiencing nightlife and traditional customs. You will be well taken care of by your hosts, Abagail and Moussa, as well as our team of local collaborators. This trip is specially curated to accommodate all levels of dancers, drummers, and folks with other interests.

For folks who register by/before September 30th, you will receive $300 off the total trip price. 

What's included

Group Dance Classes

2 dance classes/day Monday - Thursday. One on Fridays and Saturdays

3 Meals a Day

All planned group meals include breakfast, lunch, and dinner with some snacks between. All group meals are home cooked. Tea, coffee, purified water provided at meals.

Lodging

Single and shared room options available.

Airport Transport

Pickup and drop-off at Blaise Diagne International Airport

Group Excursions

Goree Island, Lac Rose, Museum of Black Civilizations, Shopping at Local Markets

Group Drum Classes

Minimum 3 per week depending on group interest.

Local Events and Parties

Special access to tannebers, concerts, baptism ceremonies, Senegalese soirees, and more!

Group Lectures

We'll invite some locals to share cultural information about certain traditional events or activities the group partakes in, to give you knowledge and information.

Cooking Class

Some group cooking classes for those interested. Learn how to make some of Senegal's most iconic and delicious dishes!

Beach Days

We'll lounge and rejuvenate at some of Senegals best beaches.

Ground Transportation

For all regularly schedule group activities your transportation is covered. (Personal outings arranged outside the group schedule are not included)

What's not included

Airfare

All participants should fly into Blaise Diagne International Airport

Private lessons

If you want to take private dance, drum, or language lessons, this is a separate charge.

Personal Trips

Any personal trips are separate charge. We can arrange a tour guide to accompany you if you want to do something on your own, at your own charge.

Bottled Water

Aside from scheduled meal times where we'll provide some purified water, participants will be responsible for keeping themselves hydrated!

MORNING:

7:00 am - 9:00 am - Breakfast 

9:30 am - 11:30 am - Dance Class

11:45 am - 2:30 pm - Lunch and Rest


AFTERNOON:

2:00 pm - 2:00 pm - Lunch and Rest

2:00 pm - 3:00 pm - Group Activity / Local Excursion

5:00 pm - Optional Guest Stage Dance Class, Drum Class, Cooking or Language Class, or a City Adventure! 


EVENING:

7:00 pm - 8:30 pm - Dinner

8:30 pm onwards - Free time; Planned Activities such as Music Concerts, Tannebers or Local Traditional Gatherings, Club/Nightlife, etc.

Glimpse into a typical WEEKLY schedule...

TENTATIVE WEEKLY SCHEDULE


MONDAY - FRIDAY:

  • Morning: daily dance classes.
    • optional drum classes. 
  • Afternoon: variety of group activities and local excursions
  • Evening/Night: occasional parties, traditional events, Senegalese soirees, social gatherings. 
    • optional dance, drum, cooking, or other classes in local specialties. 


WEEKENDS:

  • Dance on Saturdays
  • Senegalese Soirees 
  • Tannebers
  • Concerts: music, dance performance, etc. 
  • Party Time (nightlife is BIG in Dakar)!
  • Rest/beach time on Sundays


LOCAL TRAVEL:

  • We will stay in Dakar for over a week, then venture to a nearby city for about 5 nights. 
  • We’ll also take day trips to Bargny and neighboring boroughs.
  • Group Excursions to Goree Island, Lac Rose.
  • All travel will be within about two hours of Dakar.

About your organizer

Abagail is a performer, choreographer, instructor, creative and dance educator. She's traveled to Guinea, Senegal, Ghana, and the Ivory Coast to study dance + music since 1999. She is an international performer and teaching artist, having performed at the Paris 2024 Olympics, Bercy Arena, Paris; Arena Di Verona, Italy; and the Fifa World Cup, Qatar. In the US, Abagail is dance faculty with Pomona College and AMDA College of the Performing Arts, and runs her online dance platform, Heart Dancer Experience.
